Don't see my wimpy sisters response here yet. But she is afraid of all things that move and she LOVES this ride and has NO problems with it at all. She doesn't like heights or motion rides and she does great on Soarin! Go and enjoy!
Soarin' has almost no actual motion at all, just the illusion of motion. Most people don't have a problem even if they are prone to motion sickness because your body and your brain aren't fighting with each other about 'different movement' experiences (like when your vision tells you things are whipping past you as you look out the side window in a car and your body tells you another since it knows you're moving forward).
However, there IS one sequence some people (myself included, and I've never been prone to motion sickness) find a bit 'dizzying'. The next-to-last scene where you fly over the downtown area at night, right before you reach Disneyland. The tracking is just slightly off on that scene and it can make you feel just a bit 'woozy'. Close your eyes when it 'gets dark' and it's likely you'll be just fine. If you're really worried, just pop a Less Drowsy Dramamine before you visit the park and you're all set for the day!
I get motion sickness very easily, but I dont have a problem on Soarin'. I never go on the coasters or spinny things. On Soarin', you are barely moving -- if I start to feel queasy, I close my eyes for a second or two until that picture is gone. Really, it is worth trying -- we avoided it for 4 years (at DLR) because of this issue, then finally tried it and loved it!!!
The first time I rode it I was on the top level, I think it was 3, and I felt a bit lightheaded but the next few times I rode it I was in the middle and felt fine.
I agree with something several posters have said. This is a very gentle ride with an illusion of movement, but if you should start to get a little woozy just close your eyes for a few moments, the feeling should pass. I love this ride.
I get motion sick very easily and Soarin' is not a problem for me. It helps that you have a nice breeze in your face during the ride. It's a gentle ride so if there are any parts where you start to feel queasy, just close your eyes for a few seconds. The scenes change quickly and whatever was bothering you will be off the screen after a few seconds. We even took my 86-year-old mother on it and she enjoyed it!
I'm thinking about riding soarin at epcot, but I'm a bit concerned. Has anyone been dizzy or off balance after riding it? All that motion might make me dizzy and I would probably have to go back to the hotel instead of on more attractions.
I really didn't know what to expect when I first "rode" Soarin' so I was a little worried. I get queezy easilly and have occasional panic attacks. I LOVE SOARIN'! my 13 year old daughter and I kind of get into the scene like when we are going over the snowy mountain we make like we are skiing and when we are going over the ocean waves we kick our feet! it's great fun....just use your imagination and HAVE FUN! Helen
I love Soarin!!! It's probably my favorite ride at WDW. Last trip we rode it four times. Be sure to use fast pass as the lines can be very long and slow.
I get motion sickness pretty easily, too, but Soarin' didn't give me any problems (except for making me feel like an idiot when I went to dodge the golf ball!).
