After Christmas sales on winter coats?

I need to get new winter coats for myself & DH - we're taking a trip to Canada soon and have realized our current winter coats are just not going to be warm enough.

I've been looking at some nice down coats online at LL Bean, North Face, & Columbia Sportswear. I'm wondering if these stores typically have after Christmas sales on winter gear? We're also going to check some local outlet malls, but I'd love to get some input from folks on the board who have experience buying winter coats during winter. We don't need ski gear, just warm coats (maybe also vests?), and probably boots that will keep us warm & dry in the snow.

Yes they will clearance coats after Christmas to make room for the summer clothes. I got a really nice wool coat at Macy's last year at the end of Jan for $30.. A few years ago I got DH a LL bean coat on clearance.

Keep an eye on the Lands End down coat prices. I got a great deal on mine and it was before Christmas two years ago.

I like to get down coats from Eddie Bauer. They have a nice selection and really good sales. I would sign up for their emails so you can be notified of sales. I usually aim for 40-50% off. They usually offer free shipping too.

Right now Eddie Bauer is 40% off everything with free shipping until midnight. You can wait for 50-60% off but you risk not getting what you want.

Macys has friends and family (extra 25% off) going on til tonight. Many items are already reduced so it's a good deal. Sometimes I get better deals online, sometimes in store. You have to check.

I would try 6pm.com and Sierra Trading Post. They will have discounts on the brands you are looking for. I would rarely ever buy those brands direct from the maker themselves. You can find them much cheaper elsewhere. Try Dicks Sporting Goods online as well.

I highly recommend Lands End. They are great quality and hold up for years. I have purchased winter coats anywhere from 50%-80% off in the later winter months usually on the sales floor at our local Sears though sometimes there are great sales on their website too. They offer a guarantee which I used once for a split zipper. They replaced the coat a year after purchase, no questions or hassle.
