After about 9 years since my last ride on Space Mountain, all I can say is....

blah! Last time I was on Space Mountain I was 14 and this was back when I lived in Los Angeles. Granted , I've only ridden the disneyland version, but it seemed the same. Wow, what a difference 9 years makes. That is one uncomfortable seat for an adult. Sure, i'm a pretty husky guy, but not too large either. The problem was the legs! The seat leg rests were just too short! Having your legs in a butterfly way really makes the ride unpleasant! Also, after riding rock'n Rollercoaster, the ride is too tame! I'm surprised this is still the number #1 ride in the MK. I'll take splash mountain/Haunted Mansion over that any day. It wasn't such a bad ride, but I think RNRC just dwarves it.

It's not just you, I'm a petite 40 something Mom and it is uncomfortable for me too. Of course I spend the whole time in the second seat trying to hold on to my daughter in front of me so she doesn't fly out. To me it's just too rough, not as rough as BTM but definitely not as smooth as RnRC. If you really want discomfort as an adult, try riding the Astro Orbiter. Who ever designed those seats was a sadist!

I rode it in Dec 05 (female, age 40) after not having been on it since 1982 (couldn't ever get on it on my 10/03 and 5/04 trips). Man, was it always so bumpy and jerky???? It was definetley not how I remembered it. This was me the whole time on the ride: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

In January, I got to ride the DL version and WOW! not even the same ride! Side by side seating makes a huge difference in comfort, plus the ride was darker, faster, and smoother. I rode it three times in a row!
Now, I'll still ride the MK version because my son loves it but I wish they would upgrade it to be more like DL's.

You think it's bad now, you should have road it when it first opened and you had to sit inbetween the persons legs. Come to think of it it was a great ride to take the girlfriend on.

When I rode WDW's Space Mountain for the first time in October of 2004 I was so disappointed. Like somebody else, I was terrified my 9 year old daughter would go flying out of it. I was expecting it to be like the Matterhorn in Disneyland which is similar in configuration but seats two people together. Also, I had ridden the Disneyland SM version in 1977 when it first opened and still remembered how cool that one was. Now that Disneyland has refurbed theirs, the WDW is even more disappointing. Besides being so uncomfortable, there is no soundtrack playing which adds a lot to the ride at DL. I hope WDW does the same refurb Disneyland did, it was worth the wait!

You should have ridden it before they did a refurb a couple years ago. The cars rattled so much your fillings would fall out. The thrill wasn't being in the dark or going fast around turns and mini-drops. The thrill was risking a nice spinal injury with all the shaking. It's been much smoother since....it's once again fun...but pretty tame.
