We’re now a week into our 16 day trip to Africa and have a bit of WiFi for the first time in a while, so I thought I’d try to start a trip report. Since I’m trying on my phone, this might be brief and I’ll expand when I’m home in a couple weeks and can type more on my computer (plus add pics). We’ve probably taken 1,000 pictures so far between our four phones and my nicer Fuji camera.

Quick background - my wife and I decided to take our two boys (23 and 19) to Africa for my older son’s college graduation present. This trip is about a year in the making, so no small feat.

Our itinerary was as follows:

Day 0/1: Fly into Johannesburg (via Newark) and stay the night at a property a couple minutes from the airport (Sunrock Guesthouse).

Day 2-3: Morning flight to Maun, Botswana, where we connect to our first camp, Laroo La Tau, near Makgadikgadi National Park. Spend 2 nights at Laroo La Tau.

Day 3-5: Flight to next camp, Camp Xakanaxa, inside Moremi Game Reserve. 2 nights at that camp.

Day 5-7: Flight to Ghoha Hills, near the Savuti marsh area of Chobe National Park. 2 nights here.

Day 7-9: Flight to Chobe Game Lodge, on the Chobe River. 2 nights here.

Day 9-10: Drive to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe side. One night at the Victoria Falls Safari Club.

Day 10: Activities in the morning, then afternoon flight back to Johannesburg and over to the Sunrock Guesthouse for one more night.

Day 11-15: Morning flight out to Mozambique for four nights at Santorini Mozambique resort in Vilanculos.

Day 16: Travel day back home, Mozambique to Johannesburg to Newark and home to Ohio.

I’ll try to break down the parts by camp and the different experiences at each. Pictures will likely have to wait until I’m home in the states.

I am really interested in reading your trip report! A safari is definitely on my "short list" :). My DD24 has always wanted to go and I think we might plan for when she graduates from grad school.

Looking forward to reading along. I have always wanted to visit Africa.

Our first African Safari adventure basically put us at one game resort, but we spent some time in Ca[e Town first and made some journeys to see wineries and Cape of Good Hope. The Second time we spent time in two camps, in two totally type resorts. There is nothing quite like South Africa.
