I dont know if you guys have seen this, but I have seen at least two reports this week from correspondents with troops in Afghanistan this week where troops where under heavy fire, and in both cases soldiers interviewed said they need more troops!!

The report on NBC by richard engell was horrifying as troops where struggling to keep their weapons working!!

What the hell are we doing!!!...Bush needs to shift troops immediately to Afghanistan. The fact that those under fire are asking for support through the news media is ridiculous. Where we all not told we won in Afghanistan!! C'mon already!:confused3

My family member is one of those troops:sad1: They are beyond exhausted. They have lost SO many valiant soldiers already. He says he has just recently noticed an increase in media funneling into the region. This is good because the word will get out to Americans that these poor young soldiers are outmanned and, right now even outgunned. Our only advantage right now is in the air. I thank you for commenting on this and being concerned.

There was also a report on '60 minutes' this past sunday, if you are at all interested, it was very well done. I'm sure that it is still available to view on their website.

Another Bush failure! Has he accomplished anything in 8 years? Has he had one single success?

Bring them home. They don't need more, they need less. There is no reason to be there.

My step-son joined the Marines and leaves for boot-camp on November 3rd. His recruiter told him to plan on heading to Afghanistan, not Iraq, as that is where troops are most badly needed.

Now, we all know you have to take what most recruiters say with a grain of salt but, after watching 60 Minutes last weekend, I believe he is most likely going to be sent to Afghanistan rather than Iraq.

Ask a military officer whether or not we need to be there. Their answer will differ from yours drastically.

First, God bless your Step-son!! The recruiter has his 'ear to the ground'....so I would say the likelyhood is higher that he will head to Afghanistan, not Iraq...but you just never know. There are other 'hot spots' throughout the world. I recently heard that a high ranking Marine officer was 'pounding desks' in Washington, saying that he and his troops are ready to go to Afghanistan. Time will tell....really, no decisions are being made right now as Bush prepares to leave office.....Thank your SS for his service to our country.:thumbsup2

Thank you, JoyLuck. I will pass along your thanks. We are so very proud of him. We are taking him and his fiance out to a "bon voyage" dinner next Friday. I'm not gonna cry...I'm not gonna cry...I'm not gonna cry...;)

On their way...troops are coming...it was in the paper about the increase in Marine units in that area. My friend's DH is leaving very soon (he's Navy) w/the Marines.

We lost a Navy P-3 (reconnaissance aircraft) there on Monday. Though the plane was destroyed, the crew all made it out alive. We knew guys involved, was from our old duty station. (DH just left the P-3 community)

I'll keep him in my prayers. Many thanks to your family, it is so hard for them to go. I was talking to my friend last night about her DH leaving w/the Marines and she had me crying...they went and made buildabears with daddy's voice in it and she was telling me how she made one secretly for him too with a message from her. That stuff just tears me up! It's tough! No doubt about it!

So glad the crew made it out alive. Have you heard if the plane was shot down or crashed for other reasons?

It's absolutely criminal that Bush et al pulled our most critical resources from Afghanistan to pursue an unprovoked war in Iraq. The Taliban has reconstituted itself, the poppy crop is back to pre-9/11 levels, women still have NO rights, girls still can not go to school, and 1 our of 5 children die before age 5.

Oh, and lest we forget, the supreme mastermind of 9/11, Osama bin Forgotten is still free.

We too, have a family member in Afghanistan. Our nephew is over there, and his wife gave birth to twin girls last December.

What a wonderful idea those bears are. I bet Mommy will like to hear his voice just as much as the little ones.

OMGosh, I have tears from this. What an awesome idea :goodvibes

God Bless your nephew and his family.

Thank you. We do appreciate that. They came to visit in July, and I was torn between crying when they left and beating the garbage out of him (in my own anger and frustration - nothing against him personally).

To all the service families.....prayers are said for their safety and continued safety. What honorable people!!!

I am glad to hear that the crew of that P-3 are all safe, good news!

The build-a-bear idea---LOVE IT!:thumbsup2 I am going to use it and suggest it to other families as we get closer to the holidays.

When our Nephew was getting ready to go, we (being a HUGE family) did our goodbyes in stages...each of us spent time with him and did something special....he asked us not to be around the week or so prior to deployment, so that he could concentrate on getting his guys ready to go...dealing with their last minute issues etc....But, it is the time to get as emotional as you want, cry if you need to---we cried buckets! But we sent our guy off with the knowledge that this is his path he has chosen, we will support him and his troops 1000%.
