Before I found this site, or Mousesavers.com, I bought the subscription to AffordableDisney.com. The good news is that I did save my dad hundreds of dollars on his Polynesian stay for this summer, so I got my money back. But I have a further question for others who might have purchased Affordable Disney...

Has anybody used their "Free Vacation Gift Certificate" or know anything about the deal? What's the catch?

I was just looking at that website. Is it a book worth buying? Sounds like a great book!

I like the info on the website because I did print it out as a book and read through it - gave it to DH and it got us started on trip planning. I also liked it because he lays out the discounts that can be found in real numbers and explains how/where to get them. It also includes info on Universal Studios and other Orlando attractions. I have saved well over the subscription by reading the information offered - but I couldve gotten the info here too :)

On the other hand, it really doesnt offer much information that cant be found on these boards. If you have a while before your trip, you can save the $30 and get the info elsewhere :) If you are still interested in subscribing - get someone else to go in with you. When you purchase a membership they will send a free membership to a friend (at least they were doing this in March). That way it would only be $15.00 each.

You mentioned a "membership"? I thought the 29.95 was for the book alone. What else do you get with it?

The book is online so you are really subscribing to a website. They update the site (book) with current info and new discounts from time to time. I have emailed John Gross a few times asking for his advice/opinions for our trip and he has always been very fast in responding and helpful.

I agree that you could get most of the info on other sites, like mousesavers.com. It is good, but you could get the info for free if you hunt around for it.

I'm still hoping somebody has more info particularly on the free vacation certificate!

Im gonna email and ask John Gross what the deal is! Hopefully he will give me all the details and there wont be any surprises. If what he says sounds good, I will order one and let you know how it is :)

Only 5 Weeks until DISNEY!!!!!!!!!

Well, I emailed John Gross and asked him if he would personally use the certificate and if there is a "catch" involved and he responded by saying that you pay $10 plus room tax and that's it. He has never used one, but he said his records show that there have been 18 used in Orlando in the last month. Not much info to go on, but I did find this below. It is the terms of using those certificates. I guess they are sold wholesale to people who want to increase their business... they buy them for about 20 cents and get more customers and the hotels get customers too. Im gonna give it a try and will let you know what the deal is :) This says send in $15, but I think the terms and conditions are the same otherwise. There is a FAQ page at affordabledisney.. I think the only way we will ever know is if one of us actually do it!!

Yes. You must be 21 years of age or older. Reservations must be made 60 days in advance. Dates near conventions and major holidays are usually blacked out and unavailable for this special offer. Holidays, weekends, and travel within 60 days require a surcharge. Check-in days are Monday through Wednesday. This offer is not valid for conventions or group travel and may not be used back-to-back. Only 1 certificate may be used per family, per city in any 12 month period. Which hotels will I be staying in?
The hotels you will be staying in are constantly changing and depend on the date, destination, and availability. Hotels used are rated AAA or better. You select the travel dates and our travel provider will select the hotel that has occupancy during those dates. We guarantee that you will be satisfied with your accommodations or your registration fee will be refunded.

What happens after I send in my certificate and the $15 processing fee?
You will receive back a reservation form for the city of your choice. For instance, if you select Las Vegas, you will receive a reservation form for Las Vegas. You simply fill out the reservation form with your dates and mail it to the travel provider's reservation office. If you follow the simple terms and conditions and select dates 60 days in advance and not the week of a holiday, you will be confirmed.

How much are room taxes?
Room taxes are between $7-$12 per night depending on the city you choose.

How many people is this trip for?
These certificates are for 2 people ages 21 or older.

When do these certificates expire?
Reservations must be taken within one year.

Do these certificates include airfare?
No. Transportation, meals, and room taxes are not included. You are NOT required to purchase airfare from us or any specific agency.

How can this be offered so cheap?
We simply introduce you to hotels for just the cost of the room tax on their first visit. If you enjoy your visit, it is most likely that you will return. There are absolutely NO timeshare or sales presentations involved.
