Affordable workbench?

It really depends on what kind of work he will be doing on it. If he is a wood worker then one he can mount a vise on the side is preferable. More of a mechanic the as heavy duty as you can afford with an easy clean top and the ability to mount a steel jaw vise on top is the ticket. If he is a gemeral all around handyman then a sturdy wooden top one would do fine. :thumbsup2

Check Harbor Freight. They have nice ones and the prices are good. They also always have a coupon for like 20% off. Good luck!:)

Bunch of 2x4's and some plywood and hardboard. Real workbenches aren't bought, they are built. :thumbsup2

$150 isn't going to get you squat for a workbench. Maybe for something to sit in the corner of the garage to say "I have a workbench" but nothing that is useful.

:thumbsup2 Here's the one I built with leftover wood from our new garage build. 2x4 frame, 4x4 legs and 2 pieces of 1/2" sanded plywood for the top.

I have a 6' Gorilla bench in the basement for model building. Very nice, but pricey.
