Hello!

My name is Melissa and I am on a quest to be able to wear everything in my closet! A little background on me: I am someone who has always stuggled with my weight. In 2002 my job sent me back to school for a year. I used that time to also get in shape. I joined Curves and worked out at least 3 days a week. I lost weight, and felt great about myself. A year later I got married and actually liked all my wedding pictures! :cool1: However I also stopped working out. Married life has been great except for my waist line because I am now heavier then I have ever been. Well we went to my parents place the last week of July and I started using her recumbant bike. I found out that I could get a good workout and not feel so terrible that I never wanted to do it again (and even better, I could work out in private). I made a deal with my husband that if I used my mom's bike everyday we were up there that I could get one when we got home. Well we got home late one Saturday and I was putting my bike together that Monday night! I got the Schwinn 222 and LOVE it. I use it every morning and have worked up to being able to do 40 minutes (which is what my doctor wanted me to get to!) I have also been watching what I have been eating. I have cut out deserts and most starches. I do have some splenda pudding in the fridge just in case though. I have also cut my soda down to 1 12-oz coke a day :cheer2: I am a major coke drinker and my husband asked me to not consume nutra-sweet last year. (I don't like the splenda coke either). However I do like the Waist Watchers Root Beer made with splenda.

So thanks for let me join in and I look forward to keeping this up to date.

Melissa

Welcome to WISH!!! You've come to a wonderful part of the cyber world and joined the biggest, best bunch of losers (and I mean that in the most wonderful way) there is.

Hope you have a GREAT weekend! Enjoy your bike!

Melissa, I am so glad you decided to join us here. You will never regret that decision. I have been here almost a week and I have become addicted to this board in particular. You will receive so much support and remember, the more you use it, the more you will get out of it. All of us have several things in common, the desire for a better us and the love of the magic Walt gave us. Welcome!!!!

Welcome to WISH!!! Glad you are joining us, Melissa!

You're setting yourself up for success! Make sure to get your water in! We've had a couple of Cola-Free Challengers (namely Mykelogan and joelyfaithsmommy) who could've supported soda companies entirely...but they stopped.

Congrats on making one of the hugest decisions of your life!!!

And now-a cheer!

:cheer2: Day by day!
:cheer2: Hour by hour!
:cheer2: Melissa's gonna do it!
:cheer2: She's got the POWER!
:cheer2: Day by day!
:cheer2: Pound by pound!
:cheer2: Melissa's just doin' it!
:cheer2: No messing around!!

Have a fantastic day! You have my kitty's name in your screenname (Aero!!!!)

Ok, so last time didn't go as well as I had hopped but I am back and I am doing well. My husband and I are both using the body-type diet and exercise program. I am working out 6 days a week, and we are really watching what we are eating. It is going very well so far (only day 8); I have lost 8lbs, and my husband has lost 5lbs. :cool1: Although we head to WDW in 3 weeks, my goals are based on our trip to Hilton Head in June. I want to be able to wear all my cute shorts and tops and not look like a beached whale in my bathing suit.

So I thank you guys for the support and I love knowing that even though I didn't succeed last time, you will continue to support me.

Melissa

Well even though I knew not to get on the scale today (PMS) I still did. And I have lost another pound! :cool1: (i won't change my counter till sunday, my official weigh in day). Yesterday was our first true test. My husband and I live very hectic lifes and used to depend on eating out/take-home alot. Well last night I had training for my 2nd job (I teach math at the local community college twice a week for fun), and wouldn't get home till 8pm. We knew this would not work for my husband. So we got chinese. Now mind you we go the garlic shrimp which is a lot of vegetables and a little shrimp in a sweet/hot sauce. We each ate just a little of the rice and it was SO good. We also discovered the joy of Pepsi one. Last year (jan 05) my husband asked me to give up aspertame (sp?). He had read a lot about it and it meant a lot to him, so I did. So instead of diet coke, I started drinking coke. Needless to say that didn't help my figure. Well the hardes part of this diet was I couldn't find a caffeine source and had, after a year, broken my promise to my husband and consumed some diet coke. (I am sorry but diet coke with splenda is nasty to me). Well after trying every cola we could with splenda we went to the Pepsi section :scared1: and grabed a bottle of pepsi one (can you tell I was desperate). Well it is actually pretty good and now I have one a day around 1 or 2 and no more caffeine problems (BTW my husband drinks coffee so he never had a problem). So now I am 9 lbs lighter and drinking a pepsi product. Go figure.

My husband wanted a new scale (digital). The scale we have been using is from my weight loss for our wedding (2002/2003). It is a fine scale but not digital. So while at BJ's we picked up a new scale and to our horror when we got home we found out we gained two pounds each! :scared1: Oh well, we still have lost the same amount of weight but now had to lose more to get to our goal. Today is weigh in day for us and even though I have my period, I have now lost ten pounds. :cool1: We also decided to start tracking our measurements. We are doing pretty good working together on this diet. No pasta, high-frutose syrup, desserts, beef, dairy, or non-whole grain bread. We also have made up workout schedules where we check off what we did. It is great for accountability. We really feel like we are making life changes not just dieting.

Welcome back! My DH and I are both big on changing our lives and not dieting. When you find the plan that works for you it truly does because life changing and gets to the point you don't ever want to go back.

Congratulations on the loss! Good idea on keeping the measurements as well-they have been a lifesaver for me when the scale stopped reflecting my losses I would measure and see how many inches were gone and then a few weeks later the scale would drop again. It really helps in the frustrating times!

Thanks for the kind words. I ended up getting the flu this week. Well some weakened version of the flu since I got the flu shot this year (my job gives it to everyone). I never had a fever but boy did it wipe me out. I still stuck to my diet but I have not worked out since Monday. I am going to try tomorrow but I ended up going home from work today since I was so exhausted. I have now lost 13 pounds and I tried on my old jeans (size 14) today and I think I only have about 5 more pounds to go till I can wear them again.
