From the LA Times:

Advisory firm questions Steve Jobs' reelection to Disney board

On the eve of the Walt Disney Co.'s annual meeting Wednesday in Salt Lake City, an influential shareholder advisory firm is raising questions about the decision to recommend the return of Steve Jobs to the entertainment giant’s board despite his frequent absences.

While stopping short of recommending a vote against Jobs' reelection to the Disney board, Institutional Shareholder Services said the media company’s largest individual shareholder had attended fewer than 75% of board and committee meetings in three of the last four years. The firm acknowledged Jobs’ ongoing medical problems but said that shareholders deserved more of an explanation for his nomination.

Wow,
The poor guy must be really sick. When he got that position on the Disney board everybody was afraid of what he might do to the company. After a few years we didn't really hear anything but the McDonalds drama thing.
I figured he was just in the background scheming to launch his evil plot at a later date.
Turns out he's not even there...

Let's cut through this:

Jobs is terminally ill and he has done thrown everything except the kitchen sink at his condition (thanks to a passport and lots of cash)

Now...i hope he has/ will enjoy whatever life he has left...but that is not going to change the reality of his situation.

We are not months or even years away from some type of miracle proceedure to eradicate pancreatic cancer and reverse its effects...

So there it is...and for that reason it is wise to have a successor in place right now

He's the largest single shareholder of Disney stock, in addition to being the former ceo of pixar, so he's going to be on the board, until he physically can not be. Hopefully his condition improves and he can make more of an impact, as the guy is a forward thinker and innovator...

1) That would be an argument for APPLE not Disney. Jobs on the board doesn't have that kind of influence... That would be IGER. So being a member of the board, while important, isn't really that big of a deal. Often whose on a board is as much for Star Power (look at the number of big name politicians offered board positions after retirement... Gore, Powell, Clinton, Bush, etc.) as anything else.

2) Jobs had pancreatic cancer which went into remission. Saying he is terminally ill is not correct and quite disengenuous. Could it return? Sure. Has it? Don't know... nothing has been made public. Either way insinnuating he is dying is wrong and irresponsible without the actual FACTS to back it up. WHAT IS PUBLICLY known now is Jobs had a liver transplant, his cancer is in remission and he is on a medical leave of absence. THAT IS IT.
