Hello DISboard world. I am a new member even though I've been to Disney and lurked on here for awhile I decided I am kind of out of the loop. I went to Disney with my girlfriend back in 2012 but now my Mom, Sister and her 3 kids are going to Disney in September and I have decided that just me will be tagging along for a week. I have stopped coming on this board cause as an extremely die hard Disney fan it would make me depressed a bit to see all the talk about going and not having a time to go being busy with work and school. But I figured out a way to get a week vacation get my love of Disney and my love of Road tripping all in one vacation I couldn't pass it up. I will be driving down from Toronto alone through the I-95 route.

So we will be staying off property but I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on good alone things to do while at Disney. I will be mostly alone as that is the type of person I am. I am a very to myself guy. Also want to do some sight seeing around florida. But is there any must do's if going alone as in tours or rides that are fun alone. I go with my girlfriend every couple of years and we do everything from all the rides to drinking around the world to fancy dinners. But that might not be as fun alone. So after all this rambling is there anything that is great to do alone.

Thank you

Do you not like kids? LOL Why so much time alone? Anyway, I can't speak to other FL attractions, but I would imagine you could do any of them by yourself and they'd be fun.

Maybe treat yourself to a nice dinner at Jiko or something? If I were at Disney by myself I'd still have fun doing all the same stuff as I do with the family. Maybe see La Nouba if you haven't. Maybe check out Splitsville. Do the animal safari at Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Lol i'm not anti kids, it's just my idea of a vacation isn't listening to three little girls scream at each other and I'm the kind of person that can drive alone in a car for 24 hours down to Florida so I just like doing things alone.

I was just thinking some things might not be as fun as when I have my girlfriend with me like toy story mania or buzz lightyear a lot of the stuff where 2 people is better. I was thinking this trip could be one with lots of tours and watching the parades and shows.

Way off site, but have you ever been to Cape Canaveral? It's about an hour's drive, but a straight line, and it's fascinating!! I could spend days there, though it's certainly something you could do in one day and be back at to Disney by nightfall.

Have you even been to Disney Quest? I got tickets for my son and husband a few years ago, and they had fun.

How about the Richard Petty driving experience? I know next to nothing about it, but it sounds interesting.

Likewise, you can rent a water sprite (or whatever they're called-- I think they're a cross between a jetski and a small boat) at the Disney Marinas at the Yacht Club or the Poly I think.

Take a look at some of the behind the scenes tours. (Again something else we haven't gotten to yet.) But last trip my kids took YES classes-- sorry, but for kids under 18-- and they were fascinating!!! Take a look at what's offered; I bet you would get a real kick out of some of them.

Consider planning something big for the family. Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party? Fireworks cruise? Something that will put all of you in the same spot at the same time. Your nieces will talk about it for years.

Hope that sparks some ideas!

You might want to check out the board on this site for Adults and Solo Travelers, lots of good advice there. I just did my 3rd solo trip to WDW and I love it. I've not even done any of the tours yet, it's just nice to go at your own pace, stop when you run across some entertainment, eat when you want to, etc.

Something I like to do when I'm alone and having a no parks day is to use all the free Disney transportation (buses, boats, monorail) and travel to several Disney resort hotels to see the gorgeous lobbies, pools, restaurants, shops, beautifully landscaped walkways etc. Some of the best choices would be Animal Kingdom Lodge, The Grand Floridian, The Polynesian, Wilderness Lodge, all the Epcot resorts, and Port Orleans Riverside. You will think you've traveled all over the world. And of course you could take pictures and share your "research" with your girlfriend for future trip planning. Best of all, it's free except for the food you'll want to sample like Tonga Toast and a Dole Whip at the Polynesian, African cuisine and a Zebra Dome at Animal Kingdom Lodge, etc, etc. If you need help planning the transportation routes, I can easily describe them here.

Tours would be my ideal, keys to the kingdom and there are a few others I can't think of the name of right now. That is something I am thinking of doing in a few years when it is just me and DH

has anyone who has done the keys of the kingdom tour happy with the tour. Is it worth the time and money. I am a huge disney history buff.

I did the tour 11 years ago and it was great. It was so neat seeing how the "magic" happens and learning the trivia about the place. Highly recommended.

I second that- there are lots of helpful threads over there :-)

Use single rider line to ride some of the best rides in the parks over and over with very little wait!

I'm not sure how to move the post I am new to posting on this. I didn't realize there was a solo traveler section. I should read before posting lol
