This is my first post to these boards although I have followed them for a long time and have gathered a lot of very useful information from them. Having been to WDW 7 times previously we have already booked flights for November 2007 to visit for the first time with our 2 young children. As the post suggests I'm looking for advice on renting points for some accommodation during our stay as after reading the other DVC boards it looked like an economical option for us. I've started here on the UK DVC board first before venturing onto the other boards!

My first question would be to find out how far ahead we can try to rent some points from a DVC member. Obviously the earlier we get our holiday finalised the better. The second question would be how flexible can DVC members be with booking different lengths of stay i.e can they book 3 nights one week and then 5 nights the next etc. The reason I ask this is that we are booked onto a the 4 night Disney Cruise during our 15 night stay which breaks up our stay in the middle.

Our ideal exact requirements if it helps are to try and get a 2 Bedroom Villa at preferably Boardwalk but are open to other suggestions. The exact dates would be Sunday 11th November 2007- Friday 16th November 2007 (5 nights).

As I said this is my first post so please be gentle with me if I have got anything wrong about this!

Having rented points before I think I can answer some of your questions - and I'm sure the owners will be along to correct me if I'm wrong :)

How far out you can book depends - you can book 11 months before in your home resort or 7 months before in othe resorts.

As long as you have the points I think you can book what you want, so there would be no restriction on making 2 bookings :)

Hope this helps :thumbsup2

Yes Members can phone Disney free of charge and check availability and of course it does not matter for which dates.

When we did the Disney cruise last October we actually rented accommodation from the last night of our cruise. That way, although it seems extravagent you have somewhere to go when getting off the boat.

You unfortunately have to leave very early and we were up in Orlando area by about 10.a.m. unless you plan to go straight to the parks and leave your luggage in the car you are really stuck until you can check in about 4.p.m.

It is nice to go and dump your stuff directly into the apartment and the rest of the day is not wasted. Just thought I would put that one to you, it worked well for us.

Have a great cruise and holiday.

I have booked points for this summer and booked through a owner in Oct for a Aug holiday. I thought it was the best way of getting the dates i wanted. The owner was really helpful and reasuring at every stage. The process was very simple and am looking forward to BWV!. Renting points is a great way of going delux for moderate prices, Ruth

Welcome to the Dis :)

I own at DVC and if I were to rent my points to someone it would not bother me at all whether you were booking any 3 or 5 nights. I suppose it's possible people wouldn't want the "extra" hassle, but to be honest it's no more hassle than an extra (free) phone call and possibly not even that if they made both separate bookings on one call :)

So no hassle at all, really :)

Thanks for all the replies. When would you suggest I posted a request for points given that we aren't travelling until November 2007? Would you wait until 11 months before or earlier?

Thanks again.

Since the member wouldn't be able to book until the 11 month window if you wanted their home resort, or the 7 month window if you wanted them to book elsewhere, it would seem sensible to try and ask a little earlier and then you can get all the "business" out of the way ready for them to call on the allotted day.

I have recently rented out a lot of points to 4 different people, 3 of whom are from the USA and it all went painlesly - so far! I'd offer to help you myself, but we're short of points now. Try advertising on here and then the US boards where you'll be likely to get more replies.

Good luck.

Any decent hotel will store your luggage for you until check in so you shouldn't need to leave it in the car.

Hi again

I posted this thread some time ago to try and get advice (thanks!) and I thought I'd post again as we are now about 12 months away from when we would like to rent some points. Apologies if this is too early but I can always post again if no one is able to help at this time.

We are looking to rent points for the following:

Resort: Boardwalk Villas
Type: 2 Bedroom Villa
Check-In: Sunday 11th November 2007
Check-Out: Friday 16th November 2007
Nights: 5
Points Required: 120 Approx (please correct if I'm wrong)

I look forward to hearing from anybody who can help with this reservation and thanks for looking.

HI,
SInce you are going to the world during the Food and Wine Festival, I think you'd be wise to get an owner onboard who could call at the 11 month mark.

The boardwalk two bedrooms with a Boardwalk View are exceptional...huge balconies and views of the Beach Club and Epcot. I posted a pic of the view from my studio somewhere on the UK forum, but I can't recall where.

A standard view 2 bedroom would cost less points if the view isn't all that important to you. (request a high floor down towards the far end of the standard wing if you are troubled by noise from outside, but don't mind a long walk.

If you rent the after cruise portion of your trip from DVC, they will take your luggage straight from the ship (if it is a DVC cruise) or you can store it with the bell captain if you are on an independant cruise, no matter what time your arrive. Also, you could leave suitcases, boxes whatever...stored with the bell desk that you don't want to take on the cruise and then pick it up upon your return.

Hope this helps. I own at Boardwalk and could rent you the points (no more than 150 or so as I have to save up for my own trips!! :goodvibes .
I only rent to about 4 people, but I 've done repeated rentals with them and I'm sure they would offer great referrals. PM me if I can be of service.

Hi,

We live in the UK and have been DVC members since 1997, but so far have not attempted to offer our points for rent, so this will be a first for us.

We have 250 points available from September 06 use year so should be able to help you out if you still require the points.

Our home resort is OKW.

Please let me know if you require any further information.

Regards

Keith

Thanks to all who've replied to my thread. I have managed to find someone who has rented me points to cover our needs for next year. Should this not work out for us we will be sure to post again to look for help. Thanks again.
