just wanted to know a 'what if' answer to this question:
ok our balance is due today , we booked 18 mnths ago & havnt heard from VH about these fuel surcharge increases (payed about £120 surcharge for 3 of us) so hoping to get away with it! havnt had a reminder to say balance is due either!! (cant remember if that is the norm!)
What if when i ring to pay my balance they tell me over the phone that it has increased??
Should they have to send me a letter first?
just wondering if i can argue that they didnt notify me in time :confused3
hope that makes sense!!

Tracey, I don't know for sure but I think you will just have to pay the balance as per your invoice. They don't normally post a reminder so I would just call and pretend you don't know anything about the fuel increase if they bring it up. Fingers crossed for you. Let us know what happens.

They can't increase the fuel surcharge on existing bookings, on the net it says that it will be added onto booking made from June 2008 onwards. You should have had a reminder for your balance, I had mine from Virgin last week, and my balance is due on the 10th, maybe it got lost in the post :confused3 Why don't you check your booking online to make sure it is all ok. :goodvibes

As Jen said, check your balance online and pay it online. We always pay with our debit card rather than credit card to save on the charge they make for using credit cards. We've never had to pay increases before. I think it's swings and roundabouts, if the surcharge goes down in price you don't get a refund so they don't charge more if it goes up. I'm just hoping they don't realise they failed to charge us £320 in room supplements for staying at ASM! It wasn't showing on their system when I booked but it was back on there a week after.

:cool1: spoke to travel agent today and if you have already booked and paid deposit there is no increase for fuel charge ok hope this helps:banana:

we just paid ours and we didnt get charged, we booked ours last march time

thanks for all the advice :)
i didnt know you could pay online (booked direct with VH) i was going to ring the FF number, where do i pay online VH or VA website??

If you booked with VH go to their website and follow the manage your booking link, its very easy, I've been paying a bit off each week, had a bank statement come through and it takes a few days for it to clear. If I were in your shoes I would have had it paid off a couple of weeks ago! Also the comments if you have booked they cannot add flight supplements - I've read people quoting terms and conditions that they can charge increases if its over 2%, its seems some operators absorb it and some do not, its very confusing.

Online you can view all the details of your holiday :goodvibes

ok i've managed to pay online!!
balance didnt show any increases :)
Do i get a new confirmation invoice, to show payment has been made?

Thats it now wohooo :)

not had a new confirmation but did recieve an e-mail confirming payment had been accepted

They won't send you a proper confirmation but as long as they've acknowledged the payment by email and your balance online is £0 then everything's ok. The next you'll here from them is when your tickets come through the letterbox :woohoo:

7 weeks on Monday :thumbsup2

As far as I know any package holiday booked before increases in fuel etc has to absorb a certain amount themselves, up until a point and then they can ask ABTA to allow them to add the surcharge. So once booked your price is 99.999% certain to stay the same.

Claire ;)

Here are the companies currently surcharging - Surcharges list.

It would appear mainly smaller companies who are not in a position to absorb huge rises themselves.
