We're planning to go on a Disney Cruise in 2003 with our DDs (8 1/2 and 7). We're considering purchasing DVC and using points to go on the cruise. We're in Denver and drive to Disneyland each March during spring break. We'd use the points at the Disneyland hotels each year, maybe going to WDW every 3-4 years.

Would this be a wise decision?

TIA

I don't think this is the best way to use your points. The DVCs best use is at DVC properties (Boardwalk Villas, Beach Club Villas, Old Key West, Villas @ Wilderness Lodge, Vero Beach, and Hilton Head). The cruise, Disneyland hotels, and WDW hotels are on the high side and are fine to do occasionally but not regularly.
I think we should get a petition going for them to build a DVC hotel (or section of one of the existing hotels) in the Disneyland area. I think it would be very popular.

As stated, this would not be a wise decision to buy or use DVC points. You will be better off looking for specials and paying cash. Maybe you should rent for the occasional WDW visits. Depending on the number of points you would need when you travel to WDW, buying the min (currently 150) and using banking and borrowing then paying cash for the other items might be an alternative. This would be true only if you would need more than around 300 per trip to WDW.

Thanks for the advice! I agree on a DVC in California. I read somewhere that the Marriott Newport Coast was originally supposed to be a DVC in the Anaheim area--that would've been GREAT!
