Advice on renting points

Hi all,

I'm looking to get some info on renting points, specifically on the kind of cost I could expect to pay. The points we'd want would be for Oct 17th - 23rd (ish) of next year. We'd need two bedrooms capable of sleeping 2 adults each and we're looking at the Boardwalk or another mid range resort.

If someone could give me even a vague idea of how much it would be to rent for this I would be very grateful. I'm trying to get prices together over these next few months so we can begin checking out our options when we get back from WDW in Oct.

Thank you!

For a party of four, you have a few options with DVC accommodation:

A studio which will have either two queen/double beds (like a hotel room) or one double bed and a sofa bed.
A one-bedroomed unit that will have a king bed in the bedroom and a double sofa in the living room.
A two-bedroom unit that will have a king bed in the master bedroom, two queen beds in the second bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room.

Of those, only the one and two bedroom will have full kitchen facilities, washer/drier, etc. The studio will have a fridge and microwave.

As you're probably aware, the number of points you'd need depends on the size of accommodation / time of year/ resort / day of week, so I'll give a few options for your dates (17 - 23 Oct = 7 nights)

OKW (least points)
studio = 82 points
one bedroom = 172
two bedroom = 232

Wilderness Lodge / Beach Club / Boardwalk (preferred view) (most points)
studio = 106
one bedroom = 214
two bedroom = 282

Saratoga Springs and Boardwalk (standard view) are in between the two groups in terms of points.

Points usually rent for about $10 per point on the US rent board.

One thing to think about is the fact that your dates will coincide with the Food and Wine festival which makes the Epcot resorts very popular then. If you're thinking of renting at one of the Boardwalk resorts you may need to find someone with points at those resorts so they can try for the reservation at 11 months out, rather than 7 months in advance for someone owning points at one of the other resorts.

HTH :)

Forgive the stupid question but could we rent two studio units as opposed to one two bedroom unit?

Oh, and is that $10 per point per night/per week? I'm not entirely sure how DVC works!!

That is $10 per point and eg a studio at BWV would be 87 points for your time frame ($820) and a 2 bed would be 236 points ($2360) so you can see 2 studios would be cheaper but with fewer amenities in the accommodation. No washer drier, no full kitchen. You might not have them too close to each other either.

If you were looking to rent, then any Brit DVC owner, myself included, would bite your hand off, since so much is lost in the exchange. I have just rented out 168 points to a couple of American families and lost as much as 20% in the currency exchange :sad2: If you're interested nearer the time, we might be in the market to rent some points.

We'll definately be considering it for next year and if we choose to rent, I'll be asking on here first. We're gonna be booking around January for October. We wouldn't be bothered about having full ameneties as we'd only be staying for 6/7 nights and as for being close together, well, if you'd heard one of the parties snoring you'd understand why we'd actually like to be seperated!!!!!

One last thing, would the dining plan be available to us if we rented points as we're all very taken on the idea of trying that out?

Yes the dining plan would be available - unless things change. Both families we've rented to, have booked it - and Magical Express.

Just like to add, if you rent 2 studios you can request them to be next door to each other. When you book they won't guarantee that they will be, but we have done this twice (once asking for 3 studios) and on both occasions they were right next door.

Also even thought the studios don't have full kitchen or laundry facilities, they do have a fridge,microwave, toaster and coffee machine and laundry facilities are available at all the DVC resorts free of charge.

At the BCV, there are no studios next to each other as they are all the lock off part of a 2 bed villa.

Ours weren't next to each other unfortunately but we coped ;)

Renting points is a great way of testing out/staying at a DVC resort - one I can thoroughly recommend - so much so we're hoping to do it again next year :thumbsup2
