Advice on modifying a reservation?

We are a little less than 11 months out from traveling to our home resort for the first time. We have our reservation already booked using up all of our 2013-14 points, but we have pretty much decided that we'd like to shorten our stay at VGF, and then use those points for a few nights at VB.

I know I can't make a reservation at VB until we are 7 months away, but what happens when I modify a reservation? Does it make sense to do that now, or should I just let the reservation sit as is until we are able to make the change at VB?

I'm still rather confused as to what happens with modifying reservations and if you get penalized in anyway. I appreciate any insight and help! Thanks!

There's no penalty to modify a reservation. If you are 30 days or less and your modification results in less points, they become holding points. Also if the new reservation is less you have to look at banking windows if that's what you want to do. If you borrowed points, they will remain in the current year.

I would wait until 7 months to be sure VB is open.

I would only do it now if you won't still need those nights if VB is not available. However, if you can't change and would still want those nits, then I would have the CM do it at the 7 month mark when you call to see about the switch.
