HI!! I want to get a very inexpensive digital camera with at least 5mp. I am no where near being a pro at taking pictures and really just will mainly use it for things at work that I want published in the local weekly paper and for times when dh is not available to take pictures with his fancy digital. I am technology challenged!! I have a HP computer and did have a lexmark printer but have always had problems with it so this weekend I bought a HP printer and installed it all by myself!! I was thinking that maybe a HP camera would be best for me and easier if I kept with the same brand. My other choice would be a Kodak but since I will prob get one from CompUSA auctions I have not found a good"my deal" yet. I don't make much money so I need to keep the price down a bunch!! I know most people do not like the HP models but like I said I would not even use it all that much. Any opinions???

Disclaimer... I am an AMATEUR at photography, and am learning so much from the folks on this board... so my review of the HP camera is from an amateur point of view..... Easy to use, small, good pics....

I have an HP R707 5MP, very respectable little camera. I think the camera took pretty good photos for a "point and shoot". If you go to the "My Pictures" link in my signature, and choose the "Sea World" folder on my Photobucket account, those photos were all taken with the HP. Othe folders have a combination of cameras.

I don't see it on the HP site anylonger, but my sister has the HP717 (she always had to one up me!) Some basic camera with a few extra features. http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/product_detail.do?storeName=storefronts&landing=photo_scanner&category=digital_cameras&orderflow=1&a1=Megapixel&v1=6-8+MP&product_code=L2038A%23ABA&catLevel=2

I just upgraded to a Canon S2IS, for more bells and whistles , but I was never unhappy with my HP.

In fact yesterday when I forgot my new Canon, my little HP was in my purse, so the day wasn't a total digital loss! I do love the size... I can put it in a pocket!

This seems to be what you have!!! I really like your Sea World pictures. They turned out really nice. I think I might try to bid on this.

That's it. It is a nice camera, and I use it hard. It is almost always in a purse pocket or at least in the car!

I just added some more photos to the MGM folder that were all taken with the R707. I even got some decent photos of the Osbourne lights. I have not been to MGM since I got the Canon. There may be a few that were taken with my first HP camera that I loved as well, but I really beat up.

I would take a look at this site http://www.imaging-resource.com/ for reviews. One thing I would really look in to is battery life. My only experience with HP's, is short battery life. My friend is constantly having to change her batteries out. Not sure what model she has, but she is unhappy with that one aspect.

I had good experience with the battery life of my camera. It does not take AA batteries, but has the rechargeable battery - I forget which one.

My first digital camera was an HP. I had problems with the batteries. It seemed that the connection was loose. Then one of the probes where you insert the memory card broke off. The estimates I got to have it fixed were almost as much as I paid for the camera. I went to Ritz Camera to shop for a new camera instead of repairing it. The salesman recommended a Nikon Coolpix. I loved that camera. I still have it but recently upgraded to a Nikon D50. I bought my nephew a Nikon Coolpix 4600 for Christmas. I looked at some of the Kodak models but I guess I am really hooked on Nikon.

I have to chime in here. I have (but refuse to use) an HP M407. It is a 4.1 MP 18X zoom and it is horrible. I tried and tried and I finally went out and bought a canon A520. So much better.
