Advice on best route from the airport

We have always arrived into MCO early (10:30am) or really late (11:00pm) and have never experienced the Orlando traffic I have heard so much about. Our upcoming September trip has us getting in at 5:15pm on a Friday (9/19)--unless I convince DH to standby on the early flight ;). Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to get to WDW at that time? Is the tollway a mess at that time? Thanks for the help!!!

HI,
We use the south exit from the airport, take that to Route 417 and away you go. We have yet to encounter bad traffic on that road. Tolls are 2.00 (two 1.00). With you landing at 5:15 by the time you hit the roads, the traffic should be at a reasonable level on most of the roads, I4 would be the exception to this, I think that is in a state of "constant rush hour". :)

OK, I am a complete screw-up. Thanks for the advice, Gail. I forgot that we are going to US/IOA first and staying at the HRH. Does that change much?? My DH always does the driving and I semi-navigate (I am not very good). Sorry about that!!

Yes, actually if you are going to IOA first then the best route would be the Beeline and I4, 417 is WAY across town from there.

I understand the semi navigate thing quite well, LOL. It is very sad that I know the WDW area better than where I live (which is not all that well). :)

If I might interject, I was just about to ask a similar question, albeit it with different locations.

Currently, my family is planning on spending half a day at US/IOA so that I can validate my AP and then purchase their tickets. We're hoping to get the 2-day/2-park pass with a 3rd day free. We have a night's stay booked later during our vacation and will be spending two days there back to back.

What we can't decide is when the best time of day to make this half-day jaunt is. We're staying at the Hotel Royal Plaza. In the morning, around 8, we're worried about rush hour traffic on I-4E. Of course, our other option is to head there in the afternoon at 2 or 3 pm. Will traffic be any better or worse? We're also worried that, if the 3rd day free offer isn't available, we'll have to process my AP and turn around and go straight back to WDW. So, there's a chance, then, that we'd be coming back to WDW at 4 or 5 pm.

I guess I'm just wondering when the best times to travel along I-4 are. Thanks. :)
