We are planning a land and sea cruise vacation. We are looking to book a Category 7 with the Animal Kindom Lodge as our resort. Has anyone ever done this. I was wondering what type of room to expect when I book the package. Also, any advice on the AKL? Is there transportation to the parks? Any good places to eat? How is the pool?

Thanks for any info!!!!!!

We are also going on the Land/Sea March 3-10 (myself,DW,DS9) and are staying at AKL.( cat 6) While this is our first cruise, we have stayed at AKL 3 of the last 4 yrs. When I booked through DCL, I was told that all of their rooms were standard savanah view. I have tried in the past to request certain rooms before arriving, but have had little sucess. I have alwalys been able to change my room to a better area when we cheked in. Try to get the Arusha Savanah if you want to see larger numbers of animals. Wonderful resort, spend some time exploring it! Dining at Boma is excellent. All transportation is by bus, and works just fine. Hope you have a great time!!!!!!!!!!!!

The pool is really great at AKL. It looks like a fantasy oasis in the middle of a desert. It's kept pretty warm and has zero entry and a slide. The best part is that there are animals nearby, such as flamingoes and in some cases, giraffes. There are two jacuzzis that are well located under brush and foliage, which makes them feel kind of exotic when you are in them under the moon. There is nothing more peaceful to me at WDW then watching the animals sleep at night right outside your balcony. It feels kind of surreal, like you can't believe you're seeing it (well, I felt that way). ;) I've had plenty of perfect stays there. I think it is the most user-friendly of all the deluxes because there is caffeine-free diet in the service service soda area (a plus for me which isn't at most of the other deluxes), really good coffee (AKLs machines make it stronger--I asked a CM once) and a great atmosphere. The storytellers around the firepit are really fun, especially when you are rocking on big rocking chairs, surrounded by the savannah, and looking up at that gorgeous lobby that way it looks lit up at night. I think the rooms are very nice and the beds are comfy. We've usually had very good service there.
I would recommend the yogurt parfaits and the cold roast beef sandwiches at the Mara. :cloud9:

Thanks on the info and advice!!!

"Told them" I had made a request for a certain savanah view, and wanted to know what else was available. They alwalys had several choices to choose from. Also, we have alwalys checked in early(9-930am). Not sure if this makes a difference. We have visited DW around late Feb. early March the past four years. Stayed at AK three times and WL once.
