Advice on a new point and shoot

I am in the market for a new point and shoot. I've always loved canon's but the reviews on them haven't been as good as in the past, at least not in the models I looked at(based on features I want).
I'm looking for a simple camera with a decent zoom that shoots fast between pics(My current camera is the canon 210XS which is old and slow). Another feature I'd like, but not sure if available on point and shoots is the ability to take still pics while recording video. It looks like the Lumix have a similar feature but not sure it's exactly what I'm looking for. Any suggestions? Hoping to spend about $300.

If I were you, I'd head to dpreview.com, determine your top feature needs and do a search. There may be something other than Canon or Panasonic that meets your requirements better. You'll have lots of possibilities at your price point but possibly not some of the higher end features.
