First time at Disney w/o a vehicle. Planning on taking DME from MCO to POLY. Good idea, or spring for a car service.
What is the best way to get from POLY to DTD Marketplace (round trip) for 9:30 AM? Thanks.

Disney buses have service from all Disney resorts to DTD througout the day and late into the night. During the mornings and early afternoons the buses don't run very often so allow time in case you just miss one.

Your other option is to take a taxi from the Poly to DTD. Taxis are normally waiting outside all Disney resorts. If one is not waiting the Cast Member working the outside podium will get one for you right away.

Personally I can never understand why anyone staying on WDW property needs a rental car unless they plan on leaving the property. In that case you can always rent a car for that particular day. Disney provides excellent transportation services throughout WDW.

Renting a car isn't about leaving WDW property at all. It's about being able to get anywhere you need to go within 5-8 minutes, especially those routes not served by bus with a direct route like resort to resort, DTD to a theme park, etc.

The way we vacation it would take us hours each day of travel to travel between adventures by Disney bus. For example, one of our upcoming vacation days has us going from Pop Century to the Poly to grab a piece of Tonga toast from Captain Cook's before heading over to the Wide World of Sports to grab our race packets then back to Pop to pick up another child arriving from MCO then off to Typhoon Lagoon to enjoy a few hours at the water park then over to DTD to eat a late lunch at Earl of Sandwich before heading to Goofy's Candy Company to make treats for the week then back to Pop to shower and get ready to head over to the Animal Kingdom for a race that evening.

Time in a rental car? Approximately 40 minutes total for the day. 45 if the lights are against you. Time waiting and taking buses and other transportation? A little over 3 hours. If every bus arrives in under the prescribed wait time and you don't need to wait for a second bus.

That's why people like rental cars.

If you don't plan to leave Disney property, Polynesian is probably the best location for using Disney Transport. You can take the resort monorail to Magic Kingdom. You can walk to the Transportation & Ticket Center and take a direct monorail to Epcot. You can take buses to Animal Kingdom, Disney's Hollywood Studios and Downtown Disney.

And I love Disney's Magical Express. A car service really won't save you any time as compared with taking DME. Spring for the car service if you want the personalized service or the private ride, but if you're just looking for transportation to your resort in a timely manner, then DME will be just fine for you.
