Okay-- thanks to these boards I feel I have enough information to approach Disney on buying in. What should I expect when I call? A live person? Any pressure?

My ideal goal is to buy 300 or so points in BCV from Disney, not resale (avoid hassle, ROFR, etc.). Any advice?

We are going on a Disney Cruise in January, and what I understand from the cruise board and other research sources, there are DVC presentations offered onboard. The last incentive they gave was a $10/pt discount if you bought while on the ship. Therefore, I want to know as much as possible before I get there so we can make a decision at that time and take advantage of any incentive.

As always, I would appreciate your thoughts.

It is my understanding that you cannot buy new points at BCV from Disney. I think they are considered sold out and any points picked up by DVC are used as add-ons for current members.

Maybe I'm wrong, good luck to you.

When we looked at DVC while onboard the Magic, we were told they were only selling SSR.

There was a $10 discount, but points weren't available until this year (cruised last year). Same discount was available at DVC kiosks all around the parks.

That is the incentive that I got when I bought last month. Since you are already on vacation, and many people only take one vacation a year, they give you the $10 a point discount to make up for that-- Really, the incentive works like this (if you are at Disney at the time):

Right now, they are selling SSR, property which will not be completed until March, so you won't receive your points until March2005. To make up for the time between when you buy and the time you get your points, they give you developer's points (the same number you buy-- in your case, 300), which must be used within one year. If you are already on vacation, they will "buy back" the developer's points at $10/pt, resulting in a "discount" of $10/point.

I don't know if they will still be offering the incentive in January, so I would call and discuss it with them-- I had only 3 days from the time I left to accept, or the incentives would be gone.

As for when you call, you will get a real person, and I found no high pressure at all in my communication with them!

We just bought at SSR a month ago (170 points) and our guide offered us the opportunity to buy into BWV instead. It would have cost $89/point. There just happened to be some BWV points available that they had exercised the ROFR on. The $10/point discount is on SSR only, but if you buy at another DVC resort through Disney it only costs $89/ point.

If your heart is set on BCV, call DVC and tell them you want to buy there. You'll need to give them a Credit Card so they can charge the down payment as soon as the points come available, but you can make an initial purchace at BCV. Not sure how that would work on a cruise ship.

The only problem with going that way is there is no guarantee that BCV would be available for a while. If it's not a problem being on a wait list, then go for it. I've read on this board some other poster's who think if Disney has someone on the wait list for points at a sold out resort and an attractive resale happens by, Disney will do the ROFR and sell the points to the wait list customer.

Any incentives DVC offers, whether on a cruise or at the WDW resort is for current resorts only, at this time SSR. If you really want BCV there is no reason to wait for incentives, since their won't be any. The price for the sold out resorts is now $89 per points, no incentives available. It might take some time to get points at BCV from DVC, so you're best bet is to contact DVC as soon as you willing to purchase and let them know your intentions. You'll have to provide a credit card to be placed on the waiting list, and a $500 deposit will be charged as soon as the points are available. You'll receive a call from your guide after the deposit is charged letting you know you have the points. I waited less than one week for 150 BWV points, but it could take months if you really want to buy BCV from DVC. Personally, the resale market isn't all that tough, and if you offer enough, you'll breeze pass ROFR.

As others have said, if you have your heart set on BCV, you can probably get DVC to sell you the points. Just be aware of the premium you will pay.

BCV is $89 per point (no discounts) for 38 years of ownership.

If you look into resale contracts, you should be able to get that figure down into the $78-80 range (net) after closing costs, maintenance, etc. If you can find a contract that has banked points available, you really get a bonus.

So, the price you're paying for the ease of buying through DVC could be upward of $3000 on a 300-pt contract. Your call. ;)
