hi
I haven't been involved for ages with my DVC points and I seem to be completely out of touch with how it all works now. I have 160 points from April 2020 use year, which i transferred into 2021, but now they're coming to end of their use year. I tried renting them out via David's service, but i was never fast enough to secure a rental.
So my question to you is, what would you do? I live at the other side of the ocean so i can't use them on short term myself. What happens to unused points? And is it now Interval Exchange instead of RCI? Any idea until when I can transfer them into Interval?
Someone suggested I make a March 2022 reservation and try renting it out to someone else for a discounted price. Does that sound like a good strategy?

I purchased the points resale in 2008. In an ideal world I would like to use them for Villages Paris Nature, which is one of the destinations listed but I don't think i can book them with points not bought directly from Disney?

I would really appreciate any advice!

I wouldn’t transfer anything into interval exchange before having a good look at availability as it seems very low

You don't have much time......if nothing available with II - I would see if there are any DVC resorts available to book. Make a reservation. You must use them by the end of March. Put it out there to rent out ASAP - definitely at a very reasonable. Good luck!!! Let us know if you are successful!

When there was still RCI, transferring into RCI allowed us to keep the points 2 years more useful. Do i understand it correctly that i can't do the same with Interval? Can't I trade them into Interval and use these points later?

This forum has a sponsor which is a competitor of David's. You could try using them to do a regular rental. Or as PP suggested, you could try making a reservation with your points for a resort with dates before your Use Year End which you think are appealing, then using either agency to rent out that "Confirmed reservation" (also known as a "dedicated reservation").

Can you get an extension on your points from members services? That might give you more time to rent out the points.

I had some expiring points and made several small reservations at the poly for weekends. David’s rented them for me as confirmed reservations. They all rented very quickly.

I hate to be the one who has to say this, but somebody has to. The entire protection mechanism built into a point sharing TS system is the enforcement of expiration of points. That and usage of points are really the only two things that keep the balance in a point sharing system. Making an exception for expiring points would essentially be a violation against all the rest of us who 'play by the rules' and a violation of Disney's duties as arbiter and their responsibilities as fiduciary of the system to us.

My understanding of the extended points is that Disney is giving their own points to members who have called and complained/explained. So the existing points have expired, and Disney has been adding points at Riviera out of their own stash to the members’ accounts.
Not a bad solution as far as solutions go. The rules are being followed, points are expiring, but Disney is doing their best for members that were not able to travel for reasons that they considered valid enough to help with.

Well, I'm not really sure where the OP is from other than "I live at the other side of the ocean", but I thought I read that member services was making an exception for the folks who were not allowed to travel to the US?

You say "you weren't fast enough" to secure a rental ? I believe you can give the 3rd party company permission to rent the points without you having to get into the middle of the transaction. After my suggestion, a friend of mine rented February expiring points in less than a week with one of the 3rd party companies. I'm not sure which one because I gave her the names of the 3 biggest companies.

The post above yours answers that question. That does not violate the terms of ownership and FL timeshare law.

He has a little over a month to book and use. He would have to move fast to see what his options are with II. If this does not work out, book a reservation if anything is available and then use a broker or advertise himself (FB, friends, family) and try to rent it out - real cheap.

He might just lose them. Different scenario - My SIL thought she had banked her points a little over a year ago. She had not and lost 150. MS could do nothing. Things happen :(

I believe that would mean giving the third party your DVC user name and password, so that the third party could log into your DVC account and make the reservation. I, personally, would not be comfortable doing that.

Since your resale was back when all members were created equal, you could use your points in Paris (if there’s still availability). They are just as valid as direct points. Best of luck!!

ETA: I just read this on the Paris resorts page-
· Disneyland® Paris reservations must be made prior to the last 4 months of your Use Year for stays during that Use Year.

It may be too late to deposit to II as RCI was 45 days prior to expiration. The only option, if you can’t find a way to book something in March to rent to someone, is to call MS and see if you can get the extension of points for international owners.

DVD is giving owners RIV points that expire end of May. It is case by case and it may be too late, but would give you something to offer for rent via the agencies,

Worst case, you don’t qualify and the points will be lost.

I think you have three realistic options, and I think they are in this order of most to least helpful:

1: Call Member Services and see if they will give you any additional time.
2: Try to book something (anything) and offer it as a guaranteed reservation.
3: See if it is still possible to deposit them to Interval. If so, the points will be good for exchanges through December 2024.

Thanks everyone. I decided to make a confirmed reservation. I managed to snag a weekend (dates removed) in the (resort removed) (128 points) * happy face * I have my sister and cousins living there so if i don't get it rented out, they can go pamper themselves :-) hoping to get rid of it though at a discounted rate of 12/point.
