Advice needed: AKL savanna view, GF or Poly in August?

We have always stayed offsite, but we are going to stay onsite for 3 nights in August after a beach vacation. I just booked AKL in a savanna view room.

But then my TA told me I could switch to a basic room at the Poly or GF for around the same price (the total package price for any of the 3 would be within $100). Now I'm not sure. What a problem to have!

We have young kids (6 and 2) who love MK and AK. We take a break in the afternoons for the little one to nap and the 6 year old to swim. Part of the reason for picking AKL is that there seems to be enough to do that we can do a resort day our first day. Our kids love animals, and DH and I love the food choices at AKL. But we want to spend at least one day at MK, so the monorail is awfully tempting. What do you experts recommend?

I would stay at AKL. It's right next to AK park, so that makes it very easy to go back to the resort to rest. It is also such a uniquely themed resort, quiet and serene & YES, the food choices are awesome!

Both GF and Poly are nice too, and do make visiting MK easy, but I think out of the resorts, AKL is the way to go!

We've stayed at all 3 and honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. They are all beautiful resorts and even though AKL is out away from everything, the transportation isn't bad (at least not in our experience). Some feel it's too far out and takes long to get anywhere, but we have found it to take maybe 5 extra minutes to get around compared to other resorts. Since the buses only service AKL and Kidani, there's no sharing with any other resort(s). With that said, the Poly and GF are more convenient for MK as the monorail is nice with little ones. If you want to be just a few minutes from MK, I'd go with the Poly or GF. The Poly would be my first choice as that's our favorite resort, but the GF is also nice and runs a close second for me. AKL isn't as convenient to MK, but is just a few minutes to AK. I think all of them have great dining options, nice pools, etc., so I would choose the one that theme/decor appeals to you the most as I think you'll have a great time no matter which resort you choose. Good luck and happy planning :wizard:.

You can't go wrong with any of them! I thought the GF was too "fancy" and "old fashioned" (DH's words) for us, and it's probably our favorite resort now. There is lots to do for a resort day, but the vibe is very different from AKL.

If you've ever wanted to try GF and the per night price is less than $350, you may want to consider GF, as that's typically a good deal for GF (rack rates when we went last April for a lagoon view room that also ended up with fireworks view was over $700, we saw a great orbitz deal that put the cost somewhere in the $300s).

I would go with AKL. The pools are larger and have more shade than the Poly. The Poly is going to be people soup in August and has limited pool deck shade.

I would switch to GF just to change it up a little bit. The food at GF is very good, IMHO. Your room will be much bigger and you'll have access to two big pools and a super cute splash pad. It is rare that GF and AKL room rates are that close, so I would take advantage of the big discount on GF.

Thanks for the advice!

Subtracting the price of tickets, it is well under $350. :cheer2:
Makes me think this is the time to snap it up.

That's good to know. I imagine us spending August afternoons there, so the pools are important.

Wonder if I can convince everyone we need to do another trip for AKL? :scratchin
