Advice: Loud Room on upcoming Dream Cruise

I'm a tad panicked about what I've been reading with regards to my room on our upcoming Disney Dream cruise (March 31st).

Seems like our cabin (5178) is directly above Evolution night club. People who have stayed in this room have stated that there's a huge booming sound from the base speakers that make sleeping very difficult before 2am. With three kids, this makes this room basically useless for our family.

I called Disney Cruise lines today, and to no one's surprise, the cruise is 100% sold out. My question is, what do you think I should do about this? Just accept the noise, ask for compensation of some sort, or what? Even if a more expensive room opens up, I don't think I should have to pay more because of a bad room. Cancelling at this point is not an option, but I don't want to be miserable.

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would keep calling Disney every couple of days to see if there is a cancellation, then you can try switch cabins.

Otherwise, hope for the best and let Guest Services know as soon as possible if and when you experience the noise.

You might also think about getting some earplugs :goodvibes

I am really surprised that they built a guest room above a dance club on the ship. That's poor planning all around.

Supposedly it's a problem with all the 5th deck aft rooms. 5178 is particularly bad, as it's directly over the speakers.

I don't want to freak out beforehand, but as a light sleeper, I think I should be able to at least sleep in my room in peace. Any comments from the dis crew, being travel agents? What can I do?

I would be absolutely shocked if DCL agreed to compensate you for something that might happen.

I would also be absolutely shocked if DCL agreed to upgrade you at no charge (or a discount) based on something that might happen.

I would continue to call DCL and ask if there are any cancellations in your stateroom category.

I was thinking along the same lines, as it's technically not an issue for me yet. If it's bad during the trip, I can complain then.

Kevin, i would tell your cruise agents about this issue for future people booking through Dreams Unlimited,

You will be able to find an issue with many staterooms on the ship.

Decks 10. 9, 8 are in the aft portion of the ship are under Cabanas (the Buffet).

There are staterooms under the basketball courts.

All of deck 10 is under deck 11 and deck chairs are rearranged all night.

There are staterooms on deck two and three that next to, around and over the kitchen for the Enchanted Garden.

My point is that you will probably find reviews that find fault with a great many staterooms on any cruise ship.

Thanks for the advice. Hopefully some other room will come up beforehand. I guess I should have noticed that situation when looking at the deck layout.

Werft-Meyer should have designed a ship with better soundproofing in sensitive areas.

Kevin is right. At some point after a few years, Every Single cabin on the ship will have a bad review by somone who stayed in it. Its either too noisy, too far from things, to hard to find, too small, the list goes on and on. If they only had cabins that were absolutly clear of anything that could or might produce noise there would be about 1/4 the amount of cabins on the ship. as big as these ships are, they have to put the cabins somewhere. This is true of all the major cruiselines. You could also be in an area no where near anything loud on the ship but get the noisiest neighbors on the ship who party and drink all night. Your best bet is to hope for the best, but bring a pair of earplugs. You will find the people who have the absolute best times on a cruise let the little things go. You are on vacation, you are not at work, not in the hospital, not at a funeral, you are in the middle of the beautiful caribbean on a beautiful ship, a lot of people have it a lot worse! enjoy your cruise and let the little things go, and instead of complaining about the speakers in the nightclub bothering you while you sleep, go up to the nightclub and get your groove on and have some fun ! sleep when your dead!

If it was just me, that's exactly what I'd do. Don't think keeping my kids up until 2am is the best idea.

I guess It's a problem with booking something new. There WERE no reviews at the time I booked.

That being said, I think you have the right to be able to get a good night's sleep - especially for the amount you pay to go on a Disney cruise. You just have to deal with it if it does become a problem.

This information is useful to know. I don't recall anyone complaining about noise on the Magic or Wonder but then again I didn't speak to everyone on the ship! Assume they have similar issues with some cabins?

As far as I recall, no staterooms are over the clubs/bars on the Magic/Wonder...don't have the deck plan in front of me, though. The reviews coming in about the Dream deck 5 rooms are they actually vibrate from the bass, in addition to the simple sound of the bass. I am imagining like this: You are at a stop light and there is that moron with his bass so high, your rear view mirror is shaking, your head is thumping and you wish the light would turn green NOW. The green light for escape for these people in these rooms sounds like it is 1:30 am. I have an expectation to be able to sleep in relative quiet when paying for a room. In this case, my parents have a deck 5 aft for our upcoming cruise. I have an expectation they can sleep...not without normal noises, of course, and from the reviews (one saying it was like a dinosaur in their room to I would rather not cruise again than cruise in a that room again) these noises are well above deck chairs being moved around and the thrusters getting turned on for docking.

I certainly don't think you're to blame here - as you will hear in our review of the Dream this week, while there are MANY things about the ship that are wonderful, there are definitely a few flaws.

That being said, I would reserve judgement on the room until you get on board. If you can get it switched, great - but don't panic. What might have been an issue for someone else might not be a problem for you. Our reviews are a good example of this - we might have an experience at a hotel or restaurant that is completely different than an experience someone else has had.

Also, don't underestimate Disney's ability to fix things. Your trip is in may - there are several sailings between now and then and if enough people are complaining about that room, DCL WILL do something about it.

Keep the faith :)

Pete

You could always bring 200 egg cartons and line the ceiling of your room with them.

Hey, it's just and idea. :confused3

Paul, do you have an iPhone? There are a number of good "white noise" apps that might work.

That would be the floor. Not easily walked on.

As for "white noise", already been tried and failed.

I was on deck 6 right above the Buena Vista Theatre on the Wonder. We periodically heard bass from the movies during the day. I am a light sleeper but the sound never kept me up. I fell asleep during the afternoon one day while "Race to Witch Mountain" was playing and slept just fine. With that said, I will be paying attention to these reviews because we are in a deck 5 aft room (5666) above Evolution also. Hopefully, Disney will do something before our October cruise.

Well, if you kept the eggs in the cartons then you'd be walking on egg shells!!

haha, just trying to shed a little humor on your situation. I do understand where you're coming from though. Can't say I'd be happy with thump thump thumping until 2 am.
