All of the above. Anyway this may be a bit long and rambly but I will try my best.

I learned scrapbooking techniques and stuff from Creative Memories. I found a consultant, liked the products and such and off I went. Even became a CM myself to support my habit ;)

So lately I have been venturing out, trying new things. I like eyelets and brads. I like some use of vellum over journaling or words to soften it up.

Here is my dilema and observations and such. I have been venturing out and looking at different layouts. My friend got me a Creating Keepsakes subscription and I have been looking at some of the layouts on two peas.

I notice I don't like to make a layout with paper on the scrapbook page. I use mostly the spargo CM pages so I don't like to have to put paper over it. Not a huge deal. I also notice that a lot of layouts contain one picture. I don't know, to me it seems as if there should be more than one because you can fit more in a scrapbook that way. Maybe I just have issues though.
I also like to do 2 page layouts. So when you open the book the two pages are themed together and flow and such. I see this as hard to do with a one page layout.

I don't know. I guess I am wondering how to combine the best of both worlds. The simplicity of CM layouts with the 2 pages and yet add the embellishments of brads/eyelets and some other cute things (that might be considered "no-no's" by CM).

Any ideas/thoughts/suggestions??

I hope I made sense.

I don't see any problem with mixing styles, sb items, etc. I was introduced to scrapbooking at a Creative Memories fundraiser, but I quickly learned there are more sb items than CM sells. I really like the CM cutting tools, & I have a variety of stickers, etc., but I visit my two LSS regularly. I prefer top loading albums. So you can see that I mix my sb supplies.

As for photos on the page ... shortly after I was introduced to scrapbooking, I removed all my old photos from the sticky type albums. They are in piles the other room. My sb pages are more like glorified photo album pages, but with acid free items. I definitely have more than one photo on a page. I have learned to crop photos & to even throw some photos in the trash can.

So, are you asking if it is ok to mix your sb technique & supplies? I think whatever style works for you is great. If you want to "mix & match," then by all means go for it!

I'm not real up on other styles, but it seems to me that ribbons, fibers and eyelets would be great accents to spargo paper. That would also give you plenty of room for lots of photos. JMO. Try things, see what you like.

You sound alot like me. I was introduced to scrapbooking through CM also, but I love alot of what else is out there - embellishments, etc. I also don't think the 1 pix on 1 page would work too well for me, I'd have 1000's of albums that way...
Recently I went to a CM all-day crop in CT and listened in on one of the "classes". The woman giving it shared this dilemma and showed us some neat techniques to "replicate" products available elsewhere and to keep the "bulk" down in your albums. Some examples given were -

Lightly sandpaper CM colored vellum for that "rustic" look
Make "rings" with the circle punch with metallic paper, back it with vellum - looks like those tags available.
Emboss onto their vellum and paper instead of buying an embossed image.
To make eyelets - use colored, very small circles of paper/sticker - adhere to your page/border/journal box/etc then punch a small hole through the center.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head and my notes are "lost" for the moment as I am re-organizing my crop space. But I think you get the idea - see what you like in the stores, go home and make it yourself. It'll save $$$, and keep alot of the bulk off of your pages.
If you'd like more ideas PM me and when I find my notes I will send the additional ideas off to you.

I'm not a purist anything, although I do tend to stay away from bumpier stuff because when I started my CM purist friend warned me against the possibility of wear as the pages are next to each other.

Many times my pages are pretty simple, along the lines of CM. And at other times the pages are more complex with wallpapering, torn paper, etc. It depends on the layout. Most of mine are two pages, unless the subject just doesn't warrant more than one - maybe I don't have enough photos, or the photos I want to use go to an odd number of pages. As for number of photos - it depends. Generally I have more than 1 but if it is a larger size print - say a 5x7 or 8x10 then it probably will be the only photo on the page.

And yes, I have too learned to be selective and throw away the ones I'm not using.

I have found a formula that works for me.I combine my love of CM products mixed in with my love for other products. Just keep at it and you will learn what does and doesn't work for you. Below are a few of my pages "CM Style" with a twist of Non-Cm products.Cyndi princess:

I love your boarders and pages. Thanks for posting them!

Scrapbook how you like. I also started with CM but have branched out. I love CM's tools and still use and buy them. I was at Hobby Lobby on Wednesday and there was a girl there looking at stickers and she told me that she was a CM Consultant! Make your scrapbooks your style. If anyone has a problem with the way you scrapbook just tell them this is the way you like it. :) I still go to crops at CM consultants. :)

Nicki-
I really like your layouts. It looks like it has a little of both which is what I kind of like and want to do.

Maybe when I get some done I will put some pictures up so you can all critique ;)

I do have one book that is CM that has the sand color pages, or cement. I really like the color so I never wall papered it. But if I wanted to use eyelets or brads on the page I just double mounted it.So the eyelet wasn't mounted onto my CM page. Hope that makes sense.
I think you can do what every you like with YOUR! Books! Because they are YOUR BOOKS!
oh and my take on how many pictures should be on a page....as many as you want!
Lately I have been using 5x7! either just one or even 2 on a page! But my scrapping style is changing once again! I don't scrap every picture. I pick just the most important ones or favorite and scrap that. THen I make a digital slide show of the rest. This frees me up to be more creative. Or at least that is what I hope! LOL!
