Hello fellow DISers,

Here's the deal. In December, we're driving to Disney for a family trip. It's going to be me, DW, DS (two-year old), my mom, my dad and my brother.

We're driving from Louisiana, so it'll be a 12-14 hour drive. We plan on leaving in the afternoon (around 5 p.m.) and drive through the night, stopping to eat supper and breakfast (and any other stops).

Anyway, we're a pooh-sized family and our family vehicle is an Explorer. We've taken trips in it before, but nothing this long. They've come to the conclusion after a recent four-hour trip to Texas that our vehicle won't be comfortable enough.

So, we're looking into renting a vehicle. My dad wants to rent a 15-passenger van, but I've ridden in those and to me, they're not comfortable enough. I want to rent a Suburban, but we can't find any rental car companies that rent those. My wife thinks an Expedition (the SUV one size bigger than ours) will be perfect.

The thing is, I want us to be comfortable. I want my wife, my parents, my brother and my little boy to all sleep while I'm driving. I don't want them to arrive at Disney too tired to do anything that first day. I'm a night owl, so I'll be OK, for the most part. LOL

Has anyone rented a bigger vehicle for a reason similar. If so, where did you find the vehicle? I think a Suburban or even an Excursion will be perfect enough for us to be spread out (don't forget about bulky car seat taking up a lot of space). Like I said, my dad thinks the van would be better. Maybe the van I rode in was just bad.

Personally, I'd rather fly, but my mother is terrified of flying and I wouldn't dare ask her to compromise. :badpc: Not to mention, the little one has never flown either.

BTW, we're staying at Fort Wilderness, if that is needed.

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

I know that Avis rents Suburbans at SELECT locations, usully airports. Expeditions can be rented at most Hertz locations. If i had to choose, suburban DEAFINETLY! Ive owned MANY suburbans and they are the most comferatble car for trips. On the highway, it gets about 18 mpg, so its not too bad, compared to other full size SUV's. Like I said, Suburban would be the best answer to your question. (FYI. 15 pass vans ride ROUGH!!)

Thanks for the info. The problem is that we live in a fairly small town, but we're relatively close to both Baton Rouge and New Orleans, so if the selection here is bad, we can always rent from there.

I'm thinking the same thing as you, in regards to the Suburban. I've ridden in a Suburban before, the back seat mind you, and it felt like I was all alone back there. I'm glad you confirmed what I already believed, the 15-passenger vans are not fun to ride in for long periods of time.

Anybody else?
