Advice for holiday trip??

Does anyone have any words of wisdom for a family going to the world between Christmas and New Years? I know, I know, it is the busiest week of the year...but I want to see those decorations and we have high school kids who cannot miss school.

Don't try to talk me out of it, I've made up my mind and we are going. I'm just wondering if there are any helpful hints from people who have been similarly insane. haha

Well I have been many times during very busy times and I will tell you that Tour Guide Mike's advice can really help you out on a plan. If fact I will tell you that even during x-mas time he can give you a plan that will get those wait times down to 10-15min or less. I have used him several times and will never go again without him. Sign up soon he has a LOT of information on his site.

- Utilize Fast Pass
- Hit busier rides early in the day
- Stay onsight and take advantage of EMH's but get there at park opening and then leave - don't stay all day as EMH days sometimes draw bigger crowds Pay attention to park closing and opening times.
-If one park is really crowded, leave and try another one.
- Avoid MK - Fantasyland from about 11:00 - 3:30
- Hop on rides during parades if you can tear yourself away or if you watch a parade, position yourself so that you are seated at the beginning of the route and can scoot out and catch a ride while others are still watching
- Make a list of must do's - if you accomplish it, consider everything else icing on the cake
- Make your ADR's!!!! (You should have them already.)

I agree with the Tour Guide Mike recommendation - he has holiday specific information that is really good.

My next tip is have a good handle on live entertainment / street performance type offerings. See http://pages.prodigy.net/stevesoares/ for good schedules. The rides will be busy and seeing some of these performances will make the trip memorable.

Develop a "Plan B" list, just incase the parks are too crazy. The resorts will be decorated for the holidays and there are lots of fun options. The Campfire Sing-along & outdoor movie at Ft. Wilderness might be a fun diversion. www.buildabettermousetrip.com/activity-campfire.html

Renting a surrey bike or a boat might be fun. Consider seeing the storyteller at the firepit in the evenings at Animal Kingdom lodge. Check out the geyser at Wilderness Lodge. etc.

Do you have your dining reservations? If not, get started on those right away.

We went during that time of the year two years ago. Yeah, it's busy but if you utilize Fast Passes and aren't going to be terribly disappointed if you miss something, you should be fine. We never went to Magic Kingdom (my daughter-in-law has issues with crowds) but sucked the life out of Epcot, MGM, and Animal Kingdom. We never really had anything planned out except on dinner reservation in Germany to celebrate our anniversary. You just have to be flexible.

BTW - I agree with not taking the high school kids out of school. My son refused to be taken out of high school. He said it was way too difficult to make up the work.
