As a DVC Member I'm always being asked suggestions on whats a must see and what they must bring when attending Disney World for the 1st timer ?

To See: #1. Haunted Mansion

To Bring: #1. Good pair of shoes

Next ?

To bring: sunscreen and motrin (and actually bring it with you to the parks - not just leave it in your luggage.)

To see/do: Mission Space and Rockin' Rollercoaster.

1. Bring a battery powered handheld fans for kids to fan them selves with.
2. A extra change of clothes in a gallon size ziplock for little ones if they are going to get wet, then you can put the wet clothes in the ziplock.

Must ride

1. Mission Space
2. Mount Everest

To do:

Learn about 1. Fast Pass and 2. rope drop

To bring:

Extra camera battery or battery charger

To see: Nemo, the Musical

To bring: a mini tool set to get those darn screws out of the monorail toys!

Don't try to see everything. See about a third in each park, then you can start having fun.

Fast passes can be worth it, but they are a pain to get and plan around. Balance all the planning with actually enjoying your time there.

Live in the moment, not for what you're about to do next.

In other words, it's better to cancel a reservation or junk a plan than to cancel the fun / time you're enjoying with your family at the moment.

In other other words, plan on 8 to 12 hours of just being there.

Character meals are overrated. You only have a couple seconds with the characters. Don't plan too much around seeing characters. Plan more around seeing your family.

If you're gonna commando the parks (and possibly stress everyone out), stay in a cheap resort. Save the money for your next trip when you spend most of the time enjoying the resorts.

Get to the park at rope drop.

Drink a lot of water, not soda.

Split some meals.

Don't forget the sunscreen!

Stay flexible.

Moleskin for the inevitable blisters.
Bottled water for your room if on property because tap water tastes bad.
Count on at least one day of no parks if traveling with children, sickness and weather get the better of them.

1. Must buy a dole whip when its hot out.

2. Must see Haunted Mansion

3. Must have a poncho, as it can pour.

The earlier you get to the park the better. You will do two to three times the rides in the same amt of time as you could in the afternoon. You will not need fast passes for the first couple hours.

1. to see, Magic Kingdom fireworks, few do it better!
2. to bring, space saver travel bags, shrinks your dirty laundry in luggage and leaves room for souvenirs on the way home!

Must See: Illuminations

Must Bring: Money :) and comfortable clothes for walking around a lot.

My brother and his family were recent first timers. I recommended they NOT get the dining plan, and not get the parkhopper option (they were there 5 days). I also recommended they stay on site at a moderate instead of offsite somewhere cheaper. He ended up happy with all suggestions; he could have spent a lot of extra money on dining and parkhopping that wasn't needed.

This way they weren't tied down to having to make meal reservations. They could do counter service whenever. Also, with 2 young kids, there really wasn't going to be any running from park to park.

Must Do:
Soarin' - EPCOT
Rock n' Roller Coaster - DHS
Expedition Everest - AK
Haunted Mansion - MK

Must Bring: non-perishable snack items (granola bars, pretzels, etc)and lemonade mix to make the tap water palatable....sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen!:sunny:

Advice:Buy a guide book ahead of time to have a better idea of where everything is in the parks, etc. If they have questions about what they've read they can go back and pick the Disney Expert's brain :teacher:.

Must See: Wishes, Mickey's Philharmagic, and Tower of Terror.

Must do: Take you time going through the parks. Go at rope drop. When you get tired, go back to the resort and relax and return later in the evening. No use being exhausted on vacation.

Layers of clothes if traveling in winter months! We travel in Feb. every year and learned to pack a little of everything and just layer. It was freezing Feb. 2010 but this year was 80! Dec 2010 was also VERY cold.

Must do's -Rope drop start attractions from the back of the park and work forward (get FP for must do's that are at the front of the parks)
Toy Story Mania, Stunt show Spectacular and Test Track!

Thank You for all the responces, so many of them I've come across myself and so many I wish we would have thought of myself, next time :goodvibes
