I have already booked our flights for the way down to MCO on May 17, I didn't realize however that we are coming home on Memorial Day, May 31. Flights are $104 one way right now through Airtran and it is a smaller airport, so there is only one flight a day. I've never flown on or right near a holiday. Should I book now since $104 is a price we can live with, or is there a possibility that a flight on a holiday could come down? Thanks in advance!

We were able to snag $129 round trip on Air Tran out of BWI for LAST Memorial Day weekend...but I think overall, flights this year seem to be higher across the board. The actual holiday day may very well stay higher. Now that I think back on it, we flew down on Fri. afternoon and came home on Tuesday 'cuz it was about $45 pp cheaper I think than flying on Monday. It's a gamble...I don't think $104 is TERRIBLE (don't know where you are exactly) and it may come down $20 or something but it's hard to predict.

I'd be very happy with the $104 on Memorial Day. I was looking at MLK day weekend a and it was over $260 ONE WAY.

Holidays make flying more expensive, not cheaper, especially holidays in which people don't actually "celebrate" anything more than a long weekend, such as Memorial Day, and tend to travel.

$104 is an amazing fare. If anything, its too cheap, since the airline is probably losing money on that fare. Buy it.

If you ever wonder why airlines are in trouble and are adding extra fees, its because people seem to think that $104 isn't good enough a deal (not picking on the OP, just saying. Everybody thinks that.)

5 or 10 years ago I used to think $190-$210 or so was a good deal for a summer round trip fare...then came SW and Air Tran etc. and we started finding fares for $49 one-way or $130-$150 round trip....THAT'S why people are still holding out for better deals & wondering about prices like $104. I snagged $59 one-way over spring break...and when I saw it I grabbed it. But waiting is all a gamble.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I went ahead and booked the flights this morning. I don't want to risk them going up over the gamble of waiting to see if I can save $20 or so. Our round trip price comes out to $194 which is still a great price, but like Anal Annie said, I did get used to the super low fares I'd been able to snag the last few times. I would have preferred to fly out of Philly on Southwest, and save on seat fees and baggage fees which really add up with my family of 7, but the other family members who are going wanted to ue the smaller, closer airport. Thanks again for the advice and experiences.

So you're flying out of LVIA??? Let us know how it goes!
