Advice - Best course of action on Borrow Points

I am new to DVC, but we jumped in and booked a trip for October which because of doing late and availability we ended up borrowing 14 points from next year. (Use year Dec) Well I got that dreaded text yesterday, the family we planned the trip with can't go, and now my hubby got the word that he will be on a business trip the week after so they aren't going to allow him to leave for three days the week before...so our trip is off.

We used 174 points...160 use year 2012, borrowed 14 from 2013. What is the best course of action?

--Do we bank the 160, eat the 14 and just get over it?
--Try to sale all 174 points?
--Other options??

I had a bad feeling in my gut when I allowed the MS to borrow those points, but hubby was like go for it, now I just want the best option for us, since I am not as educated on all things DVC, I thought someone here might have some good options.

The 2012 use year points will expire on November 30, 2013. If you are not going to visit before then, my advice is to bank those 160 points. You have until July 31, 2013 to do so.

The 14 points that are borrowed from 2013 also expire on November 30, 2013, but those can't be banked. Not a lot you can do with 14 points - it's probably enough to make a reservation for a studio for one night and you could rent that.

You could also check out our board sponsor, www.dvcrequest.com. He will find a renter for your points and pay you up to $11/point - half of the money when the reservation is made and the rest after the renters check in for their reservation. I believe he wants a minimum number of points before he takes you on, so you may need to combine the 14 with some of the 2012 points. If you go that route, don't bank the 2012 points. If I were going that route, if the points don't get rented by July 31, I'd bank the 2012 points and forget about renting them.

You could also take a look at the Concierge Collection. Perhaps there is something fairly close to home that you could get for a weekend. You could use the 14 points plus whatever you need from the 2012 current points and then bank the rest. To do this, you must MAKE the reservation before July 31, but you could stay anytime with a check out date of 12/1/2013 or earlier.
