Adventures of a DisneyWORLDholic! Updated1/24 I was an unofficial WDW tour guide.

We walked out of the castle to the back to ride Dumbo, But what did we see

These shots did not give a good idea as to what was going on. Yes, it was raining, but there was also thunder and lightning. Anyone have an idea about what happens when there is lightning at WDW? Yup, no outdoor rides. The CM's standing at the rope with us told us which rides were closed. Jonas and I made the decision to ride something else difficult to get on, you know, a ride that always has long lines. Ones the CM's announced park opening, we were on our way:

You can see we were first, but then noticed a Mom and Daughter right on our heels, so we let them by which gave me a rewarding experience when I heard the mother telling her daughter excitedly, "We're the first ones!!!" :goodvibes

So we were second! That's still kinda cool.

Now, our Keys to the Kingdom Tour wasn't until 9:30. I only had one poncho, but Jonas had told me when we were packing he wanted a rain coat. Which he forgot to pack, so we went looking for a rain coat, but not until after I drug him through the Christmas Shop. I can look at Christmas decorations all year.

We headed to Main Street and could not find a single rain coat. I even asked. I remember not to long ago they had them as one of those special purchase deals, but not today. I even remember the family that opened Epcot had on the ones I was thinking of.:confused3

I headed to the restroom and Jonas went to check on the tour to see if they were still having it because it was pouring at this point.

Not only were they having the tour, but they were waiting on us. We checked in, got our special badges, name tags and told them what we wanted for lunch. They gave us free bottles of water and we were on our way.

Our tour guide, David (we kept running into Dave's this trip, remember our horse.), said he would start us out at the train station since it was covered. Someone asked if David had done the tour in this kind of rain, it really looked like a Hurricane was hitting, and David said he had never even given a tour in the rain, so this was going to be interesting. While we were there, another member of the group asked if they could stop somewhere to get rain ponchos. David said to go downstairs, which he did, so did another lady, and then Jonas went also. A poncho was going to have to do. When Jonas came back, he said he had to purchase the lady a poncho because she didn't have an ID to use with her credit card. I didn't mind, she was older and no way would I allow her to be in that tour without protection. Some quick pics of what it looked like:

David

David started taking our questions and we had one guy that kept asking that stuff you shouldn't ask, "What is the attendance number that they start shutting the gates?" "How much do you make?" Seriously. And he would rephrase the question later to try to slip him up. David was good though and would either avoid the question or flat out say he wasn't going to answer that.

We headed down and stopped by the store with all the jewelry. I was amazed how many people kept walking through us. Several even made us move out of their way. I could understand wheelchairs, ecv's etc., but come on folks.

From there we moved down past the ice cream shot. Poor David was having an issue with calling the Confectionary the Ice Cream shop. And then when we got down to the Ice Cream Shop, he called it the Confectionary.:lmao: Jonas and I were cracking up, but didn't correct him.

Now, we were asked not tell about this tour. But, as I think of stuff, I'll try to tell you, if I don't think it is a secret that is. A lot of what he told us could be found in most books and I had heard a lot of it before. But there were some surprises.

All the repainting on Main Street is to return Main Street to the original colors it was when the park first opened for the 40th Anniversary. I hadn't heard that. I didn't even know they had changed.

After the stop in front of the Confectionary, I mean Ice Cream Shop, we headed towards the Jungle Cruise. We made a restroom stop, where I heard two ladies complaining that they should just show us the Utilidor and let us go. I didn't agree with that. While we were in the restroom, David had radio'd to see if the Cruise was running and it was. But before we left our dry spot, those same two ladies asked if they could leave the tour and wait at the CHH where we were having lunch. David said that was fine with him, so that was two lost to the weather.

We headed to the exit at the JC and hopped on a boat, skipping all of those in line. When we floated by, David told us to look away from the people who are now wondering who we are that we get to jump ahead of them in line.:lmao: "If you look over here you will see....." Even though the weather was miserable, he was keeping our spirits up.

He pointed out a few MH's, but I never did see them. Which was funny because Jonas always did, but David would eventually say, "I don't see it either." :rotfl: So it wasn't just me.

He did point out Mickey, Donald, and Goofy

Sorry, with the darkness I couldn't get good shots.

From there we headed over to PoTC. It showed a 10 minute wait, and David said he normally skips it if there is any wait, but with the weather, let's go ahead and stay dry.

He asked the CM on duty there which side to go on and we were told to go right. When we saw there was no line whatsoever, David said "They lie!"

Don't worry, he wasn't talking during the ride, he would always tell us to turn our radios off. Now, I hated the earpieces on this tour. They went over the ear and just annoyed me. Just proved why I don't have a bluetooth headpiece.

Now, we did ask about the hat guy on PoTC. Jonas and I get a kick now to see if he has a large numbers of hats on his head or not. This time he didn't and so Jonas asked. David had no idea.

In case you were wondering, this is how dark the sky was after PoTC

At this point, I put my camera in my backpack, which ended up being very smart. We got down to the train tracks and here we were going behind the scenes. There were people standing there smoking and David said not to look at them because again, they would be wondering why we were so special to go back there.:rotfl2:

As we did this though, the rain really started coming dow. This is where my pants and shoes got soaked. Was not fun at all. But where did we go...backstage, to see the floats. We didn't get to walk around the float barn, but we stood inside and while there, a guy was checking the lights on the EMP, so we got to see some of the hatches where the drivers get in.

David also told us the light up floats have several strings put together so if just like our lights, one bulb goes out, the whole string goes out, but there are 3 more strings of lights, so you shouldn't notice.

We also discussed how CM's are a certain size and put into a category number and those numbers correspond to what characters they can be. He said they are able to go try on costumes that they fall under. Can't remember what he said his characters were.

He did say the lady that plays the Fairy Godmother is also Mrs. Kringle and can't remember what she started out as, but has been there a very long time. That may have been one of those little secrets. Oops.

The big glass float in the 3pm parade is the oldest float. And they do try to recycle the floats. We also saw a frame of one, which gave us an idea as to how many battery's the things have. It was sort of like seeing the firework barges at Epcot.

Eventually we had to run back out in the rain and stopped at an area just before going back in the park. There we discussed....garbage.:lmao: It seems that garbage is picked up and delivered to three areas where it is sorted and then goes through underground pipes to one area. We were standing next to that building. Who knew garbage could be so exciting.;)

After this we headed to HM. We headed to the exit, so I thought we would be getting into the dunebuggy's and riding through, which is the GAC entrance. Which I have gotten to do and it is fun to ride past everyone wondering why you are already in a buggy. But, instead went through a CM door and down a hallway, that was themed to match the HM. This was a nice surprise. A door opened and it was a CM break room, but there were curtains to try to block out the view, but you could still tell it was just a room.

Now, David had us do the whole HM attraction, including the stretching room. He wanted us to stay put and listen to what happens after the doors opened. I didn't hear anything, everyone started chatting.

Finally it was lunch time, so we headed to CHH. Once there we learned we had lost two people, the guestion guy gave up. Something about they were afraid they would miss their flight or something. The two ladies never showed up for lunch either. So, we had four plates of food that no one was going to eat, so we all shared.

The food was all set up with our drinks, just waiting for us with these:

Attached was this

But this disappointed me

Was wasn't a normal park pin. But, it was still special.

We didn't get to choose who to sit with and ended up with a couple that didn't want to chat much. Jonas and I both had caesar salads since we had been eating so much. Honestly though, I wish I had gone with my usual fish here. There were two additional CM's there to help take care of us, but they couldn't have their lunch until we left and David kept telling them he would take care of everything. After about 15 minutes, they did decide to leave.

Jonas decided coffee would be good, so he headed downstairs. No coffee but they had hot chocolate, which I was glad to have, I was freezing. We had 12 snacks to use on our plan and that was the first two we had used.

I will continue with the Utilidor soon.

Yay, your girls trip is coming up quickly!!!

That's too bad about the weather for your KTTK tour, but at least you didn't have that kind of rain and lightning for your Segway tour. That would have been really bad! I imagine they cancel.

I'm also really surprised that some of the people on the tour with you were, let's say, not entirely in the magical spirit.

Thanks for the little tidbits you have shared. I promise not to tell anyone!

I did not know about the Mickey, Donald and Goofy in that scene. I could make out the Mickey and Donald, but I'm going to have to look closer to see if I can find Goofy.

We were worried all that rain would effect the next days Segway, but more to come on that.

The two ladies were all dressed up so not really a surprise that they would drop out. The rest of us had worn our "let's attack the parks" gear.:)

Goofy is on the left of the picture, just look for the ears. Maybe I can get a better pic next week.

OK, now I don't see the Mickey either, I thought he was in the shield.

Can you see Mickey and Goofy in this picture?

If David didn't point this out I never would have gotten it...the front of the boats, Goofy on the left, then Donald, and Mickey is on the right. I will say the Donald is no doubt Donald, but Goofy and Mickey you have to work your imagination a bit more.

OK, I see the mouse ears on Mickey. Still not getting Goofy.

Okay, is it just me, or is the shield in the background different in your two different pictures?? Melissa's looks like a blurred Mickey eyes, or something, and the larger one doesn't look like it has eyes, but one circle in the middle.

That key pin is so pretty!!

Yeah, you showed some restraint with having a Caesar salad at CHH -- I daresay I won't be able to be so careful this next weekend!!

Overall, it's sad about the weather, but it's cool that you got to go through it all anyway and see all that neat "behind the scenes" stuff. We'll talk more about it, later. ;)

Great update! Such a bummer about the rain. On the other hand, it made the park way less crowded! I'd really like to do this tour one of these days. Love all of the details and I don't mind that you share a few secrets!

Vickie and I have a mission to get better pics on JC now. My pictures are always horrible on this ride, even without the rain. I'll just become that annoying flash woman, I don't think they tell you no flash on it do they?

Vickie, I think you are right, I think the shields were different. Natebenma, when was your pic taken? I'm really curious now.

I think it was the fact that we chose our meal without actually being in the restaurant.

It was still fun to walk around and that weather will be remembered. One thing I forgot about, a few of my Dis friends that had taken the tour before pointed out a spot dedicated to Donald. David didn't point that out, so don't know if it was due to the weather, or if different tour guides give different little details.

I highly recommend this tour. I found it fun spending a day with a CM. Yes, the crowds were much better, if only we had time to enjoy the park after the tour.:sad2:

Vickie- amazing spotting!

Melissa- my photo was taken on our July 2010 trip.

Wow, so they made the change recently. Wonder if it is like the hat man on PoTC. Now I really want to go on JC to check it out and try to get a better pic.

I apologize for not updating all week and now I don't have time. Leave tomorrow for Vickie and I's big girls weekend. :yay: And my house looks as though a bomb went off, so will be working on that,:laundy:, and need to do yardwork. Just never ends does it?

Can't remember if I posted this, but since the doctor (ok actually his nurse) said I shouldn't be walking on my foot, I have bought me a bicycle. Actually, the whole family got one and Jacob finally learned to ride. He is still a little unsteadily, but rode it a mile yesterday. I'm really enjoying and it has been about 20 years since I was on one. Vickie, remember that time you were training and I rode next to you, yup that was my last bike ride.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend (and that you are enjoying some nice weather like we are here) and see ya next week!:goodvibes

You gals have a terrific trip!!! Don't get into any trouble (well, not much trouble)

Can't wait to hear all about it!

Dee

I hope ya'll have had an amazing time! I was on our tour plans app over the weekend and it appeared to be so crowded!!! I guess President's Day made it a 9 out of 10!? Can't wait to hear all about your weekend!! :goodvibes

Sorry I haven't updated or replied in sooooo long. Been trying to clean house, shampoo carpets, etc. Since I can't walk for exercise anymore, we purchased bikes and I have been enjoying bike riding. Rode 9 miles yesterday and can't wait to do it again.

We had a wonderful trip and hope we get a TR started soon. And the plan is to continue my Anniversary section on Sunday. Just too tired tonight, Jonas and I had a date at Busch Gardens today. And tomorrow I am helping to chaperone over 200 students at the Strawberry Festival. Funny, the month before you think "I can help out, that would be really nice of me to do for the kids." Night before the event, "WHAT WAS I THINKING!!!!" Anyone else ever do this? :lmao:

Thank you, we had a fantastic time and I can't believe it is already over. I hope we get the TR going soon.

Don't work too hard today, and have a fabulous trip!

We did, thank you!

Thank you. It was busy, but we had a great time!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

All of the time!!!! :lmao:

Glad to hear your trip was good! I was beginning to think that you two got so sloshed on your trip that you had been arrested or something!! :lmao::lmao: But I more than understand being so busy! I have decided I need 80 hours in a day rather than 24!!

Can't wait to hear your tales!!!

You're preaching to the choir here! Just got in tonight from chaperoning the middle school "Idol Quest" show- teachers and staff members displaying some "interesting talent". 300 5th through 8th graders in attendance. Tomorrow I am helping to run the elementary PTA family fair, so that will be 8 am to 4 pm.

No! No arrests were made in the making of our trip. :rotfl:

Sounds like you are having one of "those" weeks. Hang in there, year is nearing completion at least.:goodvibes

Ok, sorry I got preoccupied with house cleaning and catching up on all of my shows. I obviously watch too much tv.:rolleyes1

Thanks everyone for being so patient with me. We finished our lunch at CHH and headed up Main Street...or is it down mainstreet.:confused3 Anyhoo, it was still raining and miserable. But it was time for the Utilidor. I was super excited. My last picture of the tour was this:

We stopped for a potty break and then headed through a door to a backstage area. Nothing exciting here, but noticed the mirror at the door. Don't think I have mentioned this, but there is a mirror at every employee entrance into the park so they can make sure they look great before entering. Jonas remembered me telling him about the one we saw the time going to the backstage area of HM.

As we are walking, we come along a stormdrain in the middle of the paved area, which Dave proceeds to inform us "This is our entrance into the utilidor.":lmao: Yea, he's a funny guy.

We head to building and then imediately go downstairs to a concrete block hallway. The walls were painted yellow, with some red trim if I remember correctly. Not pretty, bright yellow and red either. A dull yellow and a very dark red. No picture taking allowed here.

I thought I had seen video in one of the HGTV or Discovery channel shows about MK, showing a light green tunnel, but this was all yellow. There were lots of boxes stacked against the walls labeled for Christmas decorations. Guess they hadn't moved everything out yet. This looked like it was decorations for the Utilidor and not stuff from the parks, unless it was the shops.

I remember walking by a CM in a little room sorting trash. I think that may be the worse job at WDW. What do you think?

We stood in one corner and he discussed how the tunnels were used etc. We then wandered down to a flat screen TV, where he showed us a video a CM had created showing how costumes are cleaned at WDW. The CM's have their own dry cleaners that they take everything to. Really cool process. Each item has a bar code that they scan in and they get a ticket. When it is ready, the come in, scan their tickets and there are all of the items they brought in. A little Disney magic in the dry cleaning. Now I believe at this point we would normally just turn around and go back the way we came in, but Dave said that since it was raining we would stay underground a little bit more. I wonder if we did get a longer tour, or if he just pulled our leg.

Saw the little room where the CM's get their pins for pintrading. I was all excited about that. There was a CM sitting the room, so I couldn't sneak in.;) Lots of bins full of pins though.

We saw a bulletin board showing what time the parades were, Wishes and the park hours. There were a couple of days the park closed at 7. Not sure what was going on that week, but I know there was a Sherwin-Williams convention at the Contemporary. Also, a board giving the CM's news of special events just for them, etc.

Trying to think of what else we saw. I think it was Belle we saw preparing to head out to meet all the little ones. I remember one CM who did not have a smile on her face as she headed upstairs. We all moved quickly out of her way.

I worked at a needle and suture making facility in high school that was built underground and I got the same feeling here. Concrete block all around you and no windows. So, even though it was cool to finally be in the Utilidor, not that special. Dave did say, it was figured out that the Utilidor wasn't cost effective, not as big as the whole park. It is a big "circle" with a line going through the middle so you don't have to walk the full circle to get to the other side. He also mentioned there is a small one in Epcot, but I believe it is about the size of Innoventions to Innoventions.

We eventually headed out and were now behind the Confectionary. Which Jonas and I laughed when Dave said it was another area most guests don't see, but we had seen it our first trip to WDW, when we arrived during the parade and they were having to let people enter through there because Main Street was so packed. We entered the park between the hat store and Tony's. While we were back stage, Dave did show us exactly where Tinkerbell ended up after her flight. Also, he mentioned how a lot of people think Tinkerbell is a man. Well, he said Tink has to be shorter than 5 feet and weigh 90 lbs. "How many men do you know that can meet that?'" We did get to see video of the Tink at DL practicing in the Nevada desert and that was a woman. But this was during a special presentation for AP's.

Went to turn in the passes and radio devices and headed out of the park. We had a photoshoot at Wilderness Lodge, Jonas was wanting a nap and I had to get my hair washed and straightened again.

Here is how the parking lot was looking once we made it back

Here is where the adults finally have a meltdown. It is already 2:30 and we have a 4:30 appointment for the photo shoot. Jonas is griping that he doesn't have time for a nap. I'm griping because we need to go apply the gift cards and Visa rewards to our bill since this was our last night, along with me trying to get my hair done. There was a little loud speaking going on at the parking lot of the resort.:rolleyes1

So, did we make the photoshoot, get the cards applied to the room...would we even still like each other after this day?;)

Yeah! An update!

I think the guy who has to make the burp-smell for Stitch may be a contender for worst job! And I'm not quite sure I would get in line for the waste management position on Kilimanjaro Safari.

Dude! It's Tinkerbill!

Sorry to hear that there was a bit of non-magical interaction in the parking lot!
