I booked our March break air to MCO last summer. Flights from YYZ were in the $500-$700 range at the time and only went up. So, I looked at BUF. Having just moved back to T.O. a few months ago, I wasn't aware of the JetBlue option from BUF and they hadn't released their tickets at the time. So, I booked the lowest fare I could from BUF - onestop tickets on United. The itinerary was crummy but the fare was good - about $210 pp.
Our flight left at 10:17 this a.m. from BUF. I set our alarms for 4 a.m., planning to leave at 5 a.m. from T.O. This morning, there was a knock on my bedroom door, saying "Mom, it's 5:30". OMG.
No breakfast for anyone. We hurtle down the QEW, get through the border and arrive at BUF at 7:45. Yippee!
OK, standing at the United desk, the guy asks: Would you like to be bumped? He offers first class and free tickets. Then he moves on to the people next to me who are holding Canadian passports (I've got US passports in hand). He offers to fly them out of Pearson. I say "I'll fly out of Pearson!"
So, here we are, sitting in Pearson, about 7 hours after this whole thing started. Waiting for our DIRECT flight on Air Canada to MCO in First Class.
Oh, yes, and while he was changing our return to Pearson, I nicely asked if it were possible to come back a day later. Our timeshare stay is Sat to Sat, but the air price was prohibitive to return on Saturday when I booked. So, I booked our return on Friday for the good fares. Now we have direct flights returning on Saturday. We also have 4 free tickets on United.
