Remember this movie? With Elisabeth Shue?
So the question of the day (week?) is...
Would you go to see a remake/reimagining of this movie?
Starring Raven Simone?
Or (especially you parents) do you think that the idea of kids being caught in an adventure in the city alone(ish) is too scary a notion these days that you'd not be interested in going?

PLEASE PLEASE let me know your thoughts!!!!!!

Oh. You're probably wondering why I'm asking.
Well...
Shall we call it market research??
And leave it at that??

LY/MI.
(and THANK YOU, in advance, to replying)

xx, Sid.

NO, NO, a thousand times NO!!!

And not because of the whole kids alone in Chicago thing. But please do not put Raven Symone (who annoys the bejeebers out of me) into one of my favorite movies. I don't get the whole point of remaking fairly recent movies, anyway. Why bother when you can see a pretty good original version on DVD?

And don't get any bright ideas about 16 Candles, either. :teeth:

I have to agree with NMAmy; please don't.

Elisabeth Shue was just too darned cute in the original. I can't imagine anyone doing a better job.

And they better keep their hands off "The Breakfast Club" as well.

NO. You can substitute any actor and any old movie, and just leave the word "remake" and I would not see it, and not bring kids to see it. We'd rent the old one. It's cheaper, and given today's actors, and pretty much guaranteed to have better acting (can we say Lindsay Lohan?). Not to mention the fact that it was based on the original screenwriter's/author's ideas and concepts, not a studio's (as appears to be common with these remakes).

I don't understand Hollywood's problem nowadays with coming up with new ideas. Everything is either a remake or a sequel. Hollywood is supposed to be creative, come up with a NEW idea that would interest me.

NO. It's a cute little movie as it is. We don't need a remake. Let it be.

Besides, it wouldn't work. Nowadays, the kids all have cell phones and this that and the other gadget...they'd never even have to go into the city!

Oh no. No no no no no.... Now they have that IDEA in their HEADS!!!!!

Please don't touch the breakfast club... or anything else with the brat pack!!!

I think this is the wrong audience to do your market reseearch on. We have seen the original, you need to find the tweens. That's all I am saying. ;)

No absolutely not. That is a great movie. And I agree with the poster who said it couldn't happen now with cell phones and AAA and all that. But I also am not the market for that kind of movie. I was for the first one though (I was 12 or 13). I also don't have kids who would be the right market.

Ooohhh...NO!!!!! That movie is awesome and my family (including DD's) love it the way it is. Please leave it alone and find an original story. :wave2:

How about telling your client to hire some people who can come up with an original idea..........you know.........someone with talent.

I don't like remakes in general, you compare to the orginal and then you are disappointed in it. Same as when you read a book first then the movie usually doesn't cut it.

I think what another poster said with celll phones etc. It would be to far fetched, even just for entertainment purposes.

NMAmy and Sandy V. said exactly how I feel.

Do not touch it and especially NOT Raven. I cannot stand that girl... she comes across as such a snot and very annoying. I loved the original, no need to remake!

Your comment came across as a bit snarky to me. I don't believe the OP was asking your opinion of her or her client's talent.

Go back and read the question again. Perhaps then you can answer with a yes or a no? Think about it.

Sid - No, baby. But I could ask my son when he gets home from school if you like!

I would not see it, b/c I haven't been able to stand Raven since the Cosby show. I don't get the appeal.

However, My DD 10 would most likely LOVE to see it as she is a Raven/Cheetah Girls fan.

Well I've never seen the movie in question but apparently everyone else has and likes the original.

Since it is a "tween" movie I would think it would do OK with Raven Simone. Anyone with the Disney channel is already familiar with her and she seems to have a following with the clothing line and all. So I say, sure...give it a shot.

As far as messing up the original, I'm sure that there are plenty of kids that have not seen it so to them it would be a NEW movie.
As far as technology making it unbelievable, I don't buy it. I'm sure there are still quite a few tweens without cell phones. And come on...it's a movie...lots of things show up in movies/tv that in real life don't make sense.

I would sooner poke myself in the eye w/ a stick than see a movie starring Raven.
The original was a great movie, I'm not a big fan of remakes.

A true remake with the exact storyline, no. Raven cannot pull off all the subplots from the original movie. (Think about the gangsters and stuff).

A reimagining with Raven might be okay, but it wouldn't be Adventures.

A true remake with some other Disney starlet is more likely to be a better bet. Someone younger could pull it off. Raven just doesn't look high schoolish to me anymore.

Sid, I'm with the crowd on the answer, if not the sentiment.

Adventures in Babysitting was a good movie. Kind of a sleeper, cult classic. It was cool getting to see Thor get some publicity.

Elizabeth Shue was a hottie for me back then. Karate Kid, Cocktail, AiB, BttF 2 &3. Loved all of them for that reason.

Raven Symone is not my favorite. I know she has a following in the preteen market. But, to borrow the Disney imagery, she is Stitching all over the place. (The Food Network Special was the last straw for me).

BUT -

Sid, my guess is that I (a 35 y.o. male) would not be the target demographic.

Raven is hot with the age group that might make this a financially successful movie.

I don't think remake for nostalgia's sake would be the purpose. If it is, it is off base. But a remake to draw a new generation of kids to the story would probably be doable.

Now if you would like to do a sequel where Elizabeth Shue is called upon to watch a few genXer's and take them on an adventurous outing....

I still like watching the original. Leave it alone!
