Besides getting a great resort at terrifc prices, what are the other advantages of owning into the DVC?

The washer and the dryer, a refrigerator, and room to spread out in the 1 or 2 bedroom. Did I mention the washer and dryer?:D

Isn't that enough?

There are currently some discounts, but not many and no guarentees they will continue. A 10% discount on length of stay passes. A Disney Store discount. The ability to buy a WDW discount golf card. A few restaurant discounts.

You get a copy of Vacation Magic at your home quarterly. Its a short glossy magazine letting you know whats going on at the resorts and in the parks.

Occationally, you will get promotional "stuff" from DVC - postcards, posters.

But really, its a great resort at terrific prices. That's it. Want to spread out? -- you can rent a suite at Disney, or one of the villas, or stay offsite in a suite - but it will cost you. Want the washer or dryer? -- pay cash or rent points -- but do it more than a few times, and it will have been cheaper to have bought in.

My sentiments exactly. Also being able to cook breakfast in your place. Save us some good cash!

There are also lots of "little" perks to owning DVC. One that I find especially nice is knowing that I do not need to keep calling CRO chasing discounted rooms!

We would not have puchased for that reason, but it sure is nice!

Besides all of the afore mentioned reasons, I would like to add.....Knowing that we don't have to do the parks "commando style" because we will be back.

Great accomadations and resort variety. And as mentioned "not having to do the parks "commando style" because we will be back.

Absolutely!! We actually relaxed our last trip. WDW and relaxation are not two words I would have used in a sentence before.

You beat me to it, that's my favorite one too! ;) I regularly had $1,000+ hotel bills after returning from a trip (deluxe).

What sold me on DVC was all the room. Having a kitchen, living room, huge bathroom. It really does feel like home, not a hotel room.

Knowing that you have just secured a lifetime of first class family vacations......

I agree completely, and I'll add that DVC has the advantage of forcing me to take those quality vacations.

Before, it seemed like I could come up with excuses why I could never get away for so long, etc. DVC forces me to vacation more regularly, and of course once I'm there....see quote above!! :)

You've been given these advantages over not joining and just renting nightly:

--- many years of quality accommodations
--- washer/dryer, refrigerator/kitchen
--- savings on meals eaten in
--- no need to seek discounts on lodging for each vacation
--- great accommodations & resort variety
--- relax because you will be back!
--- no lodging bill at check-out
--- more like home than a hotel room, spread out
--- forced to schedule regular vacations
--- occational promotional "stuff" from the company
--- quarterly magazine about the resorts & program
--- modest resort/restaurant/activity discounts, subject to change

I would just suggest that all of these above reasons apply to most quality Gold Crown or 5 Star timeshares & systems out there. Here are the reasons that are rather unique to DVC:

--- having a "home" ONSITE at WDW
--- owning a "piece" of Disney
--- loving a DVC resort and knowing you can return more easily

If you would be paying cash to stay in Disney deluxe resorts (or moderates without discounts) at least every other year, then consider DVC. If you would be staying offsite sometimes or are happy with the Disney value hotels or are planning to use DVC points to stay at non-DVC properties on a recurrent basis or don't know if you would stay at a DVC resort at least every other year, then it may not be for you. It's really about the resorts. HTH.

We spent 10 years off property because we knew we wanted to go every year so we knew we had to make it affordable.

We could afford to stay at better resorts every few trips, but staying at a moderate or luxury resort for 10 days or more AND doing it every year would have been a stretch for us.

DVC allowed us to significantly UPGRADE our yearly vacations at an affordable price.

I would just suggest that all of these above reasons apply to most quality Gold Crown or 5 Star timeshares & systems out there. Here are the reasons that are rather unique to DVC:

-- Theming vs decorating (like seven foot tall carousel made out chocolate)
-- Disney Service
-- Location, location, location
-- Trading power?
-- Disney hand selected alternatives through adventure and other collections.

Cure for Disney Depression. Symptoms usually begin one or two days before the end of vacation and manifest quickly by check out. This malady lasts several days to weeks post vacation. DVC remedies this with 40 years of vacations to look forward to!

This happens to me every time!!! I knew there was a medical term for it! lol. Now I can explain it by name to others. It ends when I start planning our next vacation.
