My husband and I are staying the AKL in 2 weeks (!) and I'd like to eat at Jiko. My husband is an extremely picky eater-do you think he'd be allowed to order off of the kid's menu?

Your DH wouldn't eat the filet or the salmon? Both are excellent here and they will make them as plain as you want. My DD13 gets the filet without any sauce on the plate. And they put the mac and cheese off to the side not under the meat. She likes to have a cup of sauce on the side and dip - just not the meat sitting in it. An adult eating off the kid's menu - well, I'm sure you can - but tell your DH to be a little adventureous especially if you're going to be eating at such a wonderful restaurant.

Even if he were allowed I doubt he would want to - here is a link to the new kids menus courtesy of another poster and the sticky at the top of this page:

ITA with the posters prior perhaps he can find a steak or fish cooked as he likes instead of a mickey mouse meals :) Often the meals are too much food for me so I just make a nice meal out of a salad and an appetizer, perhaps that's another option for him.

Enjoy

I have not read one thread that says Jiko has this new menu. I really hope not as it is a signature meal in a resort and is our meal plan for Christmas Eve. I am hoping not to see the new kids menu every night of our 9 nights.

It seems Disney does care if adults order from the kids menu, so I hope adults won't do it. If adults keep ordering from the kids menu at restaurants that have a decenct kids menu, I am sure Disney will implement the new menu at all restaurants, which would be absolutely ridiculous for kids at WDW for longer stays.

I can't imagine him ordering off the kids menu... he doesn't eat pork? Or steak? Or chicken and potatos? Or salmon? They can customize anything to his tasting. If nothing else, he can order an appetizer or two that looks good. The bbq chicken flatbread is good and like a pizza. THe kids menu is full of kid sized portions of the adult menu and pb&j. Surely he wouldn't want goldfish crackers and an uncrustable at Jiko, would he?

If he likes steak, the filet with mac and cheese is excellent. Enjoy your meal - we loved Jiko!

Why not just eat in the bar area at jiko, you could order a meal, he could have an appetizer. I am sure he doesn't want to eat off kids menu.

The filet with mac an cheese is very 'normal' fare... just order the red wine sauce on the side.(assuming your hubby eats beef)

If you're on the DDP that would be a waste of 2TS credits. As a signature dining establishment they will make to order for him on the main menu.

To answer the OPs question - yes, he can order of the child's menu if he wants to. An alternative would be for him to order one of the steak, fish or pork dishes with saucs on the side. But, either way, he can have something he likes & she can enjoy Jiko since it is someplace she wants to go.

Thanks!
I was going to ask this question (for a different restaurant, though) and now I don't have to.

BTW, I don't understand why some people seem so uptight about others not wanting to eat off the "adult" menu. The reasons why we don't want to are varied, I'm sure. It could be health reasons, personal taste, wanting to lose weight (the portions are HUGE) or something else. I know I will be ordering off the kids menu at Rose & Crown and 50's Prime Time now that I know that I can. Hope no one is offended!

Wow is this thread old. Just so readers know, they don't have that children's menu going on anymore.

There's no way of telling whether it's definite for ALL WDW restaurants but a lot of them won't mind. The only way to know for sure is to ask at the restaurant.

If you are on the dining plan and an adult wants to order off the children's menu, if the restaurant allows it, fine, but they'll pay with an adult dining credit without a reduction in price.

I know Rose & Crown doesn't mind you eating from children's menu as that what I do as I can't eat the adult portion & don't want to waste food. But they do take an adult TS which is no prpblem since it is only two adults. Ask all they can do is say no. Then order from adult & eat as much as you can.

The first time we ever went to Disney back in 1995 we ate at the Coral Reef & they wouldn't fix me anything that didn't have garlic in it but they had fried shrimp on the kid's menu which after debating it with the manage they agree to let me order it. We were paying oop they charge adult price but I got only three shrimp(bite size). I thought since I was paying adult prices I should get a little more than three shrimps & the waiter agreed & brought me more. I didn't want the kid's menu then because of size but because that was the only thing they had without garlic in it. Why they couldn't cook me something without garlic I don't know. They had 48 hrs noticed, all of the other places we ate at had no problem fixing me something special or rather something without garlic :)

This is old!

For what it's worth, I did order off the kids menu last summer, just like I planned with no problems at all. My sister even ordered off the kids menu once and she's 10 years older than I am!

I really think it's a non-issue unless you are on the DDP and they are going to use adult credits as opposed to a child's credit, then I think you're getting shafted $$wise, but other than that....order what you want, eat what you want and have a great time!
