Sorry if this has been talked about to death. I'm new to the community and this is my first post. I tried to do a search on this topic but got a message that the search feature was disabled.

We're visiting WDW October 7-14 and its our first time staying on property (ASMo) with no car so we're basically relying on Disney food exclusively during our stay.

I had the RNY gastric bypass surgery in April and am wondering about ordering from the children's menu at the nicer restaurants. My stomach can hold about three ounces of food. While I'm accustomed to portions being more than I can handle, we can often work around this by ordering one adult entree and sharing it between myself and my two sons (ages 1 and 3) if we can agree on what to order. OR I can sometimes find something appropriate on the child's menu (I have to eat VERY high protein) if the restaurant will allow it.

So, I guess me question is, can an adult order from the children's menu at WDW restaurants? I really want to experience some of the nicer places (California Grill, Citricos, etc.) but the thought of paying $30 for an entree I can only eat three ounces of makes me cringe. I know Disney goes out of their way to accommodate special dietary needs (in fact my MIL who is going with us this trip has Celiac Disease and is already planning around it), which is how I consider my situation.

What do you think?

It won't be a problem, but keep in mind that the kids menu is pretty much limited to cheeseburgers and chicken fingers, even in the nicer restaurants.

You might be better off either trying for a half portion (some palces will make a half portion of some, but not all of the entree's) or ordering an appetizer for dinner.

First of all... WELCOME to the DIS!!!!!

You should have absolutely no problems ordering from the children's menu. I have several times because I am an extremely picky eater. Although I have heard that some people have been charged more $$$ then the kid's prices, I have not had that experience. Everytime I ordered from the kid's menu, they charged me the kid's menu prices... just don't be surprised if it is a little more money.

You may want to check out the menus before you go...

As ducklite said, many of the kids menus aren't terribly appealing. That's a problem I'm having choosing restaurants for our trip. I have children and would prefer the childrens' menus to offer at least a few of the same items as the adult menu, just in smaller portions. I know some kids are picky, but mac'n'cheese, chicken strips/nuggets, and hot dogs every meal?!?

I think I would go with the appetizer suggestion. (Actually, I often order an appetizer as my meal outside WDW because I'm just not a big eater.)

I had gastric bypass in December and went to WDW in March. Disney was very nice... I was even able to eat at the buffett meals for kids prices. When I made my PS I acked them to note it on my reservation- It wasn't a problem at all and often the wait staff would ask about the surgery and how I was doing.

BTW... I have lost 82 lbs and am doing wonderfully. Good Luck to you... feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

Robin,
Someone in my family just had it done and is going in October and was wondering what you noted on your reservations and how did you handle the paying situation?? Shes real worried shes going to spend soo much money on food when she can eat so little. Any Help would be appreciated

I agree that you might not find the kids' menu all that appealing. I would suggest having the others in your group order different entrees and then you can have a small buffet off of their plates. That way you can have a very small variety of different foods and you won't be limited to just chicken strips and hot dogs.
