Adults Only

Hello everyone, our DS's are no longer travelling with us - yup almost empty nesters! I am looking into booking with Adventures by Disney there are quite a few of their itineraries that I am interested in. I would like to hear from anyone who has travelled on a adults only itinerary and if you would recommend them to mid 40 somethings . Any advice or tips would be appreciated as well.

I've taken 5 Adults Only trips, and I whole-heartedly recommend them!!! The Adventure Guides are excellent at adapting the trips to account for the lack of "Junior Adventurers", and allow us to be kids by letting us participate in a lot of what would normally be kids' activities. I think the Guides enjoy the break, also, as they can eat with the Adults without worrying about the kids, and they get usually get the night off where they would normally take all the kids off for activities while the adults get adult dinner time.

I love kids, but as I have none of my own, I enjoy not having to worry about kids pooping out or getting cranky. Not much you can do about the adults getting cranky, though! I have been on one ABD that wasn't Adults Only (Med cruise add-on) but I think we lucked out because the kids were all seasoned travelers.

I say go for it! The itineraries work with or without kids, and are a fabulous way to go.

We did our first ABD last October, an adults only Backstage Magic Tour. It was great fun. Our guides were energetic and enthusiastic and planned lots of surprises. Our group spanned several decades but everyone really got into the Disney spirit. I don't have children so adults only is my preferred choice. My next trip will be adults only to Australia in the fall. I will say the tour was go, go, go so I would suggest arriving a day early to relax a bit before the tour starts.

I've only done one and it was Australia, adults only. There were only 16 guests. it was seriously awesome.

My guess would be this is it, as Adults Only trips rarely fill up. The 2016 trips *should* be out sometime in May.

I just want to chime in and encourage you not to be afraid to take a non-adults-only Adventure if there's one that interests you. The family trips often end up with the kids in one group and the adults in another anyway. It's not like the family trips are all about kid stuff, and the guides do a great job of taking the kids away from the adults at any point that might result in restlessness. For example, on the Peru trip, one of guides played games with the kids at the historic places while the others gave an in-depth talk about what we were visiting.

We have a kid (although she's almost an adult now) but we are not "kid people." Yet of our 4 ABDs, we've only had one less-than-ideal experience with the children on the trip. This was because it just happened that there were many very young boys on that particular trip. My advice, if you end up not being able to take an adults-only, but still want to do an ABD, is to look into the ones that are not in the US. The ones to other countries tend to have a higher age limit. There's a big difference between a rowdy 4 year old and an 8 year old who finds new friends and leaves his parents to do the same.

My adult son and I traveled on a family ABD last summer to Central Europe. I was a bit worried about how we would mix with the families, but we had an incredible time. I think the youngest on the trip was 11, with most of the 'kids' being between 15 - 17 (and I must say the 11 year old was one of the best behaved of the group -- mind you they were all extremely well behaved). They formed their own groups and seemed to be having a wonderful time amongst themselves and with the guides.

My son (23 at the time) got along well with the younger ones since he worked as a summer camp counselor for 9 years. He really enjoyed seeing things through their eyes and spending a bit of time with them. We met some amazing families and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this trip to anyone!

My point is this: I wouldn't rule out a trip for the sole reason that it is not adults only. Disney takes great care of the kids and the ONLY time you may even notice there are children on the trips is on the bus rides. In any case, I think it is fun to see how differently a younger generation views the same experiences. Makes the trip that much more worthwhile! That's just my $0.02.

I'm curious if any of the adults were actually children over the age of 18. We're thinking about doing an ABD trip next year and my daughter will be 20. I don't want her to be totally bored if the "adults" are all old like her mom!

Our DD is 21 and our two AbD's she was almost 19 and almost 20. She had a wonderful time on both trips. there were only two children on the first trip and her. She was taken under the wing of the guides and the "adults" enjoyed her enthusiasm when seeing all the sights she had studied about. There were more children on our second trip and she teamed up with a teenager & her younger brother and they did a lot together. She's an only child, so she's used to making conversation with strangers. She can't wait to plan our third trip!

I'm just adding to what everyone else has said, but having taken the "all-adult" tour to Alaska, a couple of years ago, just to see what it was like, it turned out to be just like the tour "with kids," except the kids' activities were omitted from the tour. So, don't hesitate, if you want to take an "all-adult" tour. It is just as worthwhile as the tour "with kids."

We took Viva Italia in May 2013 adults only....It was the first Tour of the Season...we had 12 in our "family". Absolutely fantastic! We got married late (45 and 43) so it was too late for kids. We looked for "adults only" for that reason. Go for it!
