Hi! Here's some information for someone wanting to help a terminally ill adult with a wish trip. Recently a family from Cleveland was sent to WDW by the Dream Foundation, based in Santa Barbara, California.

To quote the Plain Dealer -
"The Dream Foundation was the first national organization to grant final wishes to terminally ill adults ages 18 to 65, said Linda Martin, senior dream coordinator." (I sure wish we knew what the other orgs are!)
"The Dream Foundation has granted more than 1,500 wishes in its seven year history. The group relies on donated frequent flyer miles for travel and cash donations for hotels, tickets and food allowances."

I am glad to see there is something for adults too. Wish trips are such a bright light in an otherwise very dreary world.

Sue

Thanks for posting this. It's neat that someone recognizes that adults need a little magic too.

I found out about this organization a few months ago, and referred a someone to them, but I don't know how that case turned out. Their web site is www.dreamfoundation.com. This is one of the few organizations that Disney works with that helps terminally ill adults nationwide. They have very strict criteria, and only assist folks who in the last year of life. If you have extra frequent flyer miles on United or Northwest Airlines, you can donate those miles to this organization, and they are used to offset trip costs.

They require a 1-page Dream Request Letter, a completed Dream Request Form and a physician's statement of eligibility. They are very strict about fundraising... you, your friends and family members are not allowed to use the Dream Foundation name in any personal fund raising efforts, and if you are being assisted by any other wish-granting group or organization, you are not eligible. For example, if a person were to announce on the DIS that they had applied to this organization and they were in line to have a trip wish granted, and solicited people to donate money or miles to the organization for the benefit of that individual, they might be disqualified.

On the other hand, if people wanted to donate miles or money to this organization, then there is a possibility that somebody here might benefit from that some day. :D

Sad to hear that info, Sue.
Thanks for your info, teri. nice to see you back.
