Does anyone remember what people call the stuffed animals they carry around and take pictures with (either selfies or with characters) on the cruises? I'm sure they have a special name, but I can't remember.

Are you asking about the life like looking baby dolls or actual stuffed animals? The dolls are reborns and there are lots of videos on utube.

It's the actual stuffed animals people carry that I'm asking about. On our PC cruise several years ago there were quite a few of them and the adults had a special name for them.

The ones I've seen have been Disney characters for the sake of pictures. If not called by the character name, could it have been plushies or furries?

Not Flat Stanley. The stuffed animals I am talking about are Duffy Bear, Mickey, Minnie, etc. The reason I am asking is that someone asked me if it would be weird for them to carry their Duffy Bear around the ship, dressed in different outfits, and have pictures taken with characters or CMs. That question made me remember that on our PC cruise a number of people did just that and they had a special name for their stuffed animals. I told the person who asked that I would try to find out the name for the animals and that it is definitely okay to carry them around the ship.

Yes it's weird and I wouldn't do it, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't. If an adult wants to dress their Duffy and walk around the ship taking pictures with it and that's what makes them happy, it's their life to live, and since they wouldn't be causing harm to themselves or others, more power to them.

Never heard a name for them but I have seen a lot of people carrying Duffy's for photos. There is nothing wrong with it if they want to carry their stuffed animal around and take photos with it. Some people may judge but hey nobody is going to get hurt from someone taking a photo with their stuffed animals.

No idea what you mean by special name. I've never heard of it being called anything but whatever it is.

I bring Duffy and Shellie May on cruises and I'm a 38 year old woman. A friend in our travel group (10 years older than me) brings her Stitch. They dress for dinner, get their own seat at the table, and order items to share. All our servers have doted on them as if they were our children. Occasionally they go to other events too. On our Halloween on the High Seas cruise they were in all our group photos - with matching outfits to ours and/or halloween costumes. On my Panama Canal Cruise they were in all my character photos and we had so much fun watching the characters interact with them. Pluto kept trying to steal my Shellie May. The concierge crew made them jewelry to wear with their formal attire. Much of the crew loved it and would ask me where the kids were at if they saw me without them. I've posted some of their adventure to my articles for www.wdwfanzone.com I also post photos to instagram and hashtag the ship and have had crew see me and comment on how much they enjoy following the kids adventures on instagram.

Don't let anyone tell you (or your friend) its weird. Do want you want to do and don't let anyone's judgement stop you from enjoying your vacation.

I think that's great. Years ago when I was on one of the PC cruises, I took a Captain Jack doll around with me and photographed him in different spots all over the ship. We had a great time and to this day we love looking at those pix of Captain Jack lounging on chairs or sunning on Castaway Cay. I used to carry Disney plush around Disneyland with me and get piccies with the characters. I see that alot at Disneyland, actually. Disney's the one place where it's ok to let the child in the adult come out and play again. Good for your friend.

We are going on a cruise in two weeks and my DW found a Captain Mickey 2009 that is going to be joining us on our voyage. Probably a few pics as well.

I think its fine, too, if someone wants to do it. As for me, I don't carry anything in my hands on the ship. I had enough trouble keeping track of my kids' stuffed animals when they were little, I know I could never keep track of one now. Maybe the cruisers on our PC made up the name just for their group. Anyway, thanks everyone for the responses.

She wants to do exactly this and that is why she asked about taking her Duffy Bear.

Mascot?

I know quite a few ADULT DISers who bring a stuffed animal with them. We even had a photo session on the '08 Westbound Panama Canal cruise with the DISers and their 'mascots'. A few had outfits and came to various events, others just stayed in the cabins except for the photo session.

,
this one maybe

Since "flat Stanley" is exactly what you're doing, but with a stuffie, I'd just call it that if you need to call it anything. I don't remember reading of a special name for when people who pose their plushes on trips.

I'm curious how they get their own seat at the table? Do they use an actual chair? How do you get a table to accommodate the stuffie?

With blogs being so popular, and especially on a DCL, I think people would mostly be amused. The crew sure seems to play along as well. On my honeymoon in 1991, there were 2 very eccentric men approx. 37 years old who carried their doll everywhere, taking pics etc, and of course "he" had quite the wardrobe. We called them the Doll Brothers, and they were the talk of the ship (Cunard Vistafjord). I assumed they were writing a children's book!
