Adult Only Venue

Monday night was fairly quiet dead at PI, so I got into a conversation with one of the bartenders. I mentioned the huge number of kids/teens outside (far outnumbering those over 21), and he told me to wait until 10:30, when Orange County deputies would begin "sweeping" the street. I'd never heard of this before, so hopefully it is a new trend to give PI a more adult feel. I don't think they were throwing teens out necesarily, just harassing them a bit.

Is there a curfew there for the teens?

Not a formal curfew, as far as I know, but it sounds like they are trying to implement an informal one, at least for unescorted teens.

I love "Jellyrolls" and the "Adventurers Club" but I think Citywalk is so much more adult oriented. It is such a relaxed place to go out for a drink and has a great variety. If you are tired of being ripped off by watered down drinks just go to Pat O'Briens and have a couple of hurricanes and in the morning you might be wishing you had been drinking a Disney drink the night before. Margaritaville is great and I don't seem to have much problem finding an inexpensive drink there. Nascar Cafe always seems to have reasonable domestic Beer prices. I love Disney but find myself spending about 1/3 of my adult trips at Disney and the other 2/3 at Universal.

There's a thread over on the main Trip Planning forum about PI and I ranted about making PI "no minors" after say 9pm, I totally agree.

Don't get me wrong, I like Jellyrolls just as much as the next person---but if you happen to be staying off property or have a car, try Howl at the Moon on I-drive. Same Jellyrolls concept, just a little less Disney censored!

Well now that Pleasure Island will be no more I am trying to think what Disney has planned for adults visiting WDW. We stopped going to PI when they started letting in families with children. Does anyone have suggestions of where to enjoy an evening for adults?

I'm confused...(nothing new) are they closing PI? When?

I feel your pain! It doesn't seem like there's anyplace in WDW where adults can be assured of no encounters with children. About a month ago I posted a topic about the possibility of 1 or 2 restaurants where children under 18 would not be permitted. WELL, it went on for quite a while before the administrator shut it down, but there were quite a few parents who acted as if I recommended boiling the kids in oil. I fully understand that its Disney World. Anyway, I have no real suggestion, I'm just venting!

What a terrible idea boiling kids in oil, don't you know it should be done with garlic butter!!

There are a few establishments on Orange Blossom Trail... Even better ones in Tampa...

Even closer is a place on 27 about a mile north of 192 on the southbound side...

I don't really care for Citywalk. I definitely think that they attract a "rough" crowd on many nights, and frankly their parking deck gives me the creeps.

I actually feel safer downtown on weekends--and not at Church Street Sucktion. Wall Street Plaza is THE hot spot in this area any more.

We went to city walk for the 1 time late jan and will not go again. I still saw alot of families walking around there. I agree to that the crowd seemed a bit "rougher" It was quite the trek to the parking garage. Everyone kept telling us to go and we just didn't find it enjoyable.
When we want some nightlife we usually do jellyrolls! ITs hilarious! Everyone needs to try you are sure to get hooked.
Although we don't go to PI often we do enjoy it. I found that the cowd of people is better there and when you go later at night we really don't see the family crowd.
I think it would be great if they had more adult only restaurants. I want to thank those of you who teach your children manners, I can't stand sitting in a nice restaurant and seeing kids run around, or scream. I worked in early childhood for many years so I know how children are but that being said there are some places that you just shouldnt bring them if you know they won't behave. Get a sitter or eat in one of the more kid appropriate places(theirs hundreds to choose from)

Jellyrolls is a dueling piano bar on the Boardwalk. It is strictly 21 and over (NO children) and $8 cover charge - it's alot of fun. Since it's not owned by Disney, they do allow smoking. I'm a non-smoker and never had a problem with the smoke - ventilation system works well.

That said, it's a "must do" for me every trip and usually more than once.

Check it out - once you go, you'll be hooked!!!

Just another vote for Jellyrolls. Last May we had three generations there enjoying time without the little ones. The 6 and 9 year old went back to the resort with uncle. Then, myself, mother, aunt, uncle, brother and grandfather went to Jellyrolls for the night! What a blast! It was great to enjoy the drinks and music, but it was also nice to just hop on a bus for DTD and walk to SSR.

Sssshhhh!!! Don't let our little "secret" out...

I am leaving next saturday with 2 girlfriends and we plan on doing Jellyrolls 4 our of 4 nights. We planned this trip with JR's in mind, as we have a BLAST every time. I love the piano players...all of them. I stopped going to PI when I discovered Jellyrolls. Maybe 5 years ago? It was atleast 4 trips ago, that I know! It ROCKS!

Thanks to everyone for posting your tips about Adult Venues. (Adults like to have fun too!)

We are looking forward to our trip to Universal and MK with my son but I am also looking forward to some "adult" time out with my wife at city walk. We will be visiting May 6-12 and would love to meet some fun people for drinks and making new friends.

We too were very disappointed last year when we went to PI and found that there were children there. A few years before that we had been at PI and had a blast, but there were no kids around.

Last year not only did we find children, but we found a lot of the unwanted element (very rough and tough) which I can only assume were locals, I actually felt a little unsafe a few times. If my DH hadn't been with me, I would have left.

We are planning a trip next spring for just the two of us and I would think that we probably wouldn't even attempt to go to PI, which is too bad.
I love the idea of Jellyrolls, it will be on the top of my list for things to do at night!!! Can't wait, sounds like a blast!
