We are going w/ my parents in november. My mom has cancer too, and is doing treatment so she doesn't have much energy, and we aren't to sure about how things will go, so we aren't waiting, were going soon. Well, we are waiting until the weather is cooler.
We are going to rent mom a
scooter. She uses a scooter if they are available at the grocery store. If not, she get stuck walking. You might want to encourage your mom to try the scooters out in the stores, I'm not sure how much your mom gets out, or if someone else is able to help out in that requard. The offisite rental scooters are easier to manover, plus you get to use them at the resort, my mom will need the use at the resort.
My mom has gone to vegas during the summer, she did a scooter there too.
So at least my mom is on board w. the scooter. I've convinced her to try the scooter out early in the day. Then at the end of the day, if she has lots of energy she can walk around. I don't think she will have extra energy, but you never know.
We actually bought into dvc this year too. We have a 2 bedroom reserved. We figured mom would be at the resort alot, and this would give her a sleeping room, and a tv watching room, when she needs to take a break, plus who ever is back w/ her could be in one room and her in another room where its quiet.
DVC is also attractive because of the full kitchen in the 1 and 2 bedroom. This way we can get the snacks, food that do well with mom's stomach.
So, a grocery stop will probably help out.
In the studio, you still get a good size fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker.
My parents were a little hesistant to get on board. I got my mom a easy to read guide. At first mom didn't want to go because she can't go all day. I let her know its about getting to see different scenery, and getting out and doing something different. Mom really wants to do sea world so we are heading there. I can tell she has read the material because every now and then she asks me questions about things.
Good luck in planning, I say plan the trip sooner, so the opportunity doesn't pass you by,
Connie
