do you have pets? my house had a motion sensor that the cats were constantly setting off. I had the company disconnect that but i kept the door & window sensors, and pay about $30 a month. My husband travels a lot so like the peace of mind.


I have heard that if you don't pay & the alarm goes off & they send someone, you will be charged a fee of about $200, not sure if this is true.

I have had them for 5 years. I pay $42 a month. Maybe I need to call to get a lower rate. I like it for peace of mind. I live in a good part of town, but the bad part of town is BAD and just a few miles down the road! I just had the batteries replaced and had to pay $25 for the tech to come out. The two false alarms we have had, I was impressed. They called immediately and the police were dispatched. I agree that the sign in the yard is a big deterrent!

The only negative to ADT is when you need to cancel their monitoring service. They give you the run around and charge you an arm and a leg. Please check your contract carefully. I also suggest googling about ADT's cancellation policy complaints.

We even replaced some the motion detector with the special one for pets. That's all fine-and-well for older cats, but the kittens started setting it off immediately. The ADT tech told me that despite its name and despite the claims, there is no consumer sensors that are really effective yet aren't set off by active cats. We're replacing the motion detector yet-again (today as a matter of fact) with five new sensors (windows, glass-break, etc.)

When we moved into our new house, the security system had been installed by "X" company. I had my service with another company, and when I compared prices my current company was offering a better rate than "X" company who had installed the system in new house. I pay $56 every 3 months. Any time system alarm goes off, they call within seconds. When we leave on vacation, I just call them and notify company what days we will be gone. This way if alarm goes off, they can dispatch a call to the police dept.

From reading this thread, it certainly does seem like they have many different options with pricing. As I stated early, we went six years without our system being monitored. I called them about 3 months ago because my system wasn't working right. They sent a sales guy out who tried really hard to convince me that I was going to die a painful death by way of the scary burglar that was going to break into my house because I didn't have a monitoring service. I told him that I survived living in Detroit most of my life without any type of alarm system and I now live in a place that is 200 times safer so it wasn't really a high priority on my list. I needed a new control box in order to get the system up and running. I ended up paying $300 total and that got me the new control panel, a new battery, and one year of monitoring service. To get this rate, I did have to pay up front and not monthly. Looking at what some are paying just for service, I think I got a great deal!
