ADR's needed for afternoon tea?

Has anyone done the afternoon tea and not had reservations? We are going in January so it shouldn't be too crowded, but I just want to make sure.

I would make ADRs if there is a time you want to go. The room isn't that large and tea is something one lingers over, so table turnover can be slow. Calling now should give an idea of how booked it is. If there are lots of ADRs open then your chance of walk up is greater.

If you are planning on going on a weekend I would definately make an ADR, especially if it is over a holiday.

I've seen people without ADRs get turned away. But then I've seen it when big groups made ADRs, then didn't show up, so there were openings for walk-ups.

DH and I like to do the tea every trip. The one time we didn't make an ADR we couldn't get seated for any day during our vacation, so we now make sure to reserve in advance.

Yes...definitely advise making an ADR. Year's ago it did not seem to be as popular, and they did not take ADR's and you did not need once. Then it seemed to catch on and we were turned away on one occasion. I believe that trip though, we were able to make an ADR for later in the same week...but the room is small, and they only seat for 2-3 hours a day. It remains one of our favorite activities.

The past 2 trips we've not been able to get ADRs, so this trip we made it extra early and finally got our first one.
