ADR's for Large Groups? What Happens If Some Don't Show?

I am asking this for a friend of mine, so don't burn me about it!

Her September trip for free dining started out as just her, her daughter, son, husband. Now, that number has grown to 10 of her family members (mother, father, grandmother, brother, nephew, a girlfriend mixed in there somewhere).

She's made ADR's for at least 5 restaurants. The 10 members of this family will probably split up and she's worried that they won't show for the dining.

Will she be charged if only her group of 4 show up for a reservation of 10?

I say they could be charged. Any experiences with this?

She'll be charged for those restaurants that require credit cards for reserving like the California Grill and CRT, but she won't be charged for regular ones - she might not get seated though. It's been my experience that they won't seat us until we have all arrived.

I'd love to hear the answer to this. My trip started out with our family of 5, then friends of ours joined in also. I was able to change my adrs to 10, but I'm not sure they will always "be able" to wake up and get to where we're going on time!
