Hi,

Sorry if this is already answered in another thread, I couldn't find it. My family and I will be spending 3 days at the parks at the end of August. This will be our first time there. Do we need to make ADR's like we do for Disney? TIA :)

no, you are home now and there is no mad rushing to watch the clock at midnight to make reservations........

that last week of august hours change and a few less hours of park operations.
it's not a bad time to go as crowds are not there.
well, it will still be hot but you already knew that.

you can make a reservation if you wish.
might give you peace of mind if you are new at the darkside.

some places in city walk restaurants do get crowded on friday and especially saturday nights.
you can make a reservation on line at uo or at the kiosks in city walk guest service area.

if there is a place you must try, do a reservation few weeks out.

i only make a ressie if i am there during a busy time in october and it would only be for finnegans during hhn nights.
also at margaritaville for saturday nights.

WOW!! I can't believe it! I am planning our first trip to Universal, and am so used to Disney planning, I don't know what to do with all this extra time I have on my hands :)

thank you, macraven for such great information! if it is not the weekend, can you pretty much walk up to most places? I think I must be dreaming... :)

park hours for august for studios start to shorten on the 24th
park hours for august for IOA shorten up on the 23rd at 8:00 pm and again on the 29th at 7:00 pm

there will be some lines when the parks reduce their hours but don't know if at the end of the month it will be walk ups for rides.

I'm sorry, I meant to ask about walk-up for dining.
I assumed ride lines would still be long.
it just sounds so exciting not to have ADRs for everything, and enjoy being a little flexible :)

I totally understand
I always do bier garden at Epcot and so difficult to get the early afternoon add at the end of September

Imagine trying to do a walk up there or at le cellier

last minute dining at Disney is practically impossible! le cellier - forget about it! lol

what is your favorite sit down at Universal? I am looking at Mythos, but thinking citywalk options might be better.

I would make a Mythos reservation, but there is no rush to make it early. There are almost always walk-up spots, but I have had a wait with a reservation when I watched walk-ups being told it would be 2+ hours.

Also, if you are staying onsite at one of the hotels that gives you express pass, you can probably get seated at Cowfish pretty quickly by asking for priority seating, but if you are off-site, I would book it before you go. It would have been an hour wait on my last visit without priority seating.

That's one of the things we enjoy most about Uni, it's more relaxed, IMO. We go late May, and have never reserved anything ahead of time. The only time we kind of did a reservation was when Mythos opened one day (11am maybe??), we put our name down for a 2 pm spot. At 2 pm, there was an hour wait, but we walked right in by puting our name down early.

I know late August is usually more crowded than late May, so if you are set about eating at a particular place, maybe call a couple days ahead of time.

Since we go for a week, if a place is too crowded and we don't want to wait, we just go a different day. It's worked for us :) Have a great time!

Such great advice! thank you!
jeeksosmom- sorry for hijacking your thread. It was the perfect question!! Hope you have a SUPER time, looks like we will be there at the same time :) yay!
thanks everyone for the great advice. it is so nice to know we can just sit back and relax at Universal. Disney is great, but the FastPass Plus and ADRs can tucker out my family pretty fast. I am looking forward to a completely different experience.

How far out can reservations be made for Mythos? We're going in Oct, and have never eaten at Mythos. Do they have different menus for lunch & dinner?

Thanks for the help!
