Hi All- I could use some advice on making ADR's and seeing if this is okay.

My DD9 and I are planning our first vacation to Disney. We will be doing the Deluxe Dining (DxDP- I think as it is abbreviated here). I have almost all of my reservations booked for 2 people and then......

My mother really wants to come. She keeps hinting that she wants to take the week off of work, and how she doesn't want to miss her Granddaughter's first full disney trip.

She isn't sure if the logistics will work yet, because her job is very demanding- and one of her coworker's husband is loosing a battle with cancer- this would all affect whether or not she could leave.

To play it on the safe side- I am thinking of changing all my reservations to 3 people. Is it okay to change them back to two at the last minute if she can't make it??

Do the restaurants generally have a problem if you have a reservation for 3 and 2 show up?

Thanks for your advice!!

Kristin

Nope! Its not a problem if you have an ADR for 3 but only 2 show up. They dont care. The only prob you might run into is if you have an ADR for 2 and 3 show up. Most of the time you will be seated WITH a longer wait....they have turned ppl away during VERY busy periods.

I would go ahead and make the ressie for 3. It's much harder to add a person if they assign you to a 2 top. If it were 3 people with a possibility of 4, it would be fine because they would already have you assigned to a 4 top.
If your mom doesn't come, just tell them that when you arrive....we were a party of 3, but my mom couldn't make it.....

Yes... from 3 to 2 is ok. But from 2 to 3 could be hard if the restaurant is booked to full capacity.

The only time it will be an issue is for the restaurants that require a CC hold. CRT, Akershus, CG and the dinner shows will all charge you for each person that does not show up.

There are a few TS places that require a credit card and have a no-show fee for people in your party that aren't there. There are only a few. CRT and CG are the ones I can think of. Even those have a 48-hour cancellation policy so you'd be able to change your ADR a few days away once you knew for sure.

I think even the CC ressies will not charge a no show fee just because one member of the party does not show up. I believe it's only if the party does not show. I'm sure they wouldn't still charge you for 5 people at CRT breakfast and that morning it turned out to be only 3 people because DH had to stay in the room with DS who wasn't feeling well....

I have read lots of stories on here and other forums of people being charged for missing party members on a partial show. I think a lot of it has to do with the restaurant and CM who checks the parties in. Some CMs let people slide while others don't.

Hmmm...good to know...
If the example I cited happened to me and WDW charged me anyway for my DH and DS who were sick in the room...I'd be pretty upset.
I'm pretty sure I'd be able to get them to credit it back...but I'd even be upset having to jump through hoops to do that. I would expect that they would be understanding of an illness in my family and sympathize with us not being able to share the meal with DH and DS..rather than saying "too bad..they didn't show, we have to charge you anyway".
