ADR Plan of Attack - Possible Party Size Changes

Hello, long time lurker, first time poster.

Heading to WDW in Feb 15 for my second time, honeymoon in 2009, and first time staying on property and making ADRs. For the bulk of the 7 day trip there will be 3 of us, myself, DW and DD(4). My parents, who live in Florida, may or may not join us for a few days during our week on property. We will be visiting with them for a few days after WDW before flying home. That said I have a few questions.

1. Is it better to make ADRs for 5 and then change to 3 or make them for 3 and change to 5? We aren't sure if they are coming and if so we have no idea what days and my 180 window opens on Sunday.
2. If I make the ADRs for 5 do I need to add my parents to MDE for this purpose?

Any help would be appreciated.

It is ALWAYS easier to reduce the party size than to add to it. Make the ressies for 5 and then call and have them modified to 3 if they aren't able to join you.

You do not have to add your parents to MDE to make the reservations.
