Are there any restaurants that limit the number of reservations available for parties of two?

At another Disney theme park, we need to make reservations for parties of three or four and then modify them afterwards to get a table for two. Is that the case at WDW?

Two tops are not plentiful at many restaurants so yes you may need to, more so if you’re trying to book an ADR near the beginning of your trip vs. the end. If you can’t modify it down it’s not a problem when you check in though.

When looking for ADRs at WDW, I’ve learned to start with 4 for a 2 top, then modify down. There were at least 20 times when searching in April and then in Nov that a search for 2 showed nothing

Many of them do.

When I am just two, I will often try to book something for my party size, but if the times are very inconvenient, I might optimistically hope that I will meet another couple there I would like to invite to dinner. If it doesn't happen, the restaurant host is never fazed by "oh, two of us couldn't make it."

Yes, I'm evil. I can live with that.

You are 100% not evil at all for being forced to do it, it's Di$ney that is the evil one for forcing you to have to play this game in the first place. Either that, or their software is so out of date it can't manage it, which is just as evil if they won't spend the money to solve the problem.

I don't blame Disney for preferring a party of four fill the four-top, vs just the two of us. They are no different than any other restaurant anywhere that takes reservations.

If your complaint is "late stage capitalism stinks," then yes, I am with you.

My ADR window opens in a couple of weeks. I've been playing around with the app and, so far, the only one that I can't seem to find for a party of two is Space 220 Lounge. Is it just that all reservations for the Lounge go quickly or that I should be looking for a larger table and modifying?

Space 220 lounge is arguably the hardest ADR to book. Not as many seats as in the restaurant section and it’s more popular because you’re not locked into the expensive prix fixe menu there. Try looking for 4 as @Brian Noble said, you typically get more hits that way. But you may need to just keep looking or use one of the ADR finders. When my partner and I ate there I had to book a 4 top.

We had no problem getting ADRs for two for our trip in late February at any restaurant we wanted: Victoria & Albert's, Steakhouse 71, Topolino's, even Boatwright on Mardi Gras night, as well as Celebration at the Top. V & A was the only one we made 60 days out.

4 will probably give you more time slots. The majority of my trips are solo so I book ADRs for 2 and sometimes 4 then just adjust it during online check in at the restaurant on the day.

We are 2 and always book for 4. Never an issue.

Like others, I normally wouldn't do it this way, but so many times there's been no ADR slots for 2 people, but when switching to 4 a bunch of ADR slots show up.

But after you book for 4, you can go in and modify down to 2 . You will get the same time slot to confirm. So then you don’t have to explain anything when you check in. We had to do this repeatedly.

Interesting. When I've done that in the past, I was not always able to keep the same time slot.

FYI: With the latest functional and UI update where you can search for multiple dates, you can no longer modify down. When selecting the modified number of guests, it will show the times available for that number and not the previous.

Thank you!

We are a party of 2 and lots of times I have had to book a table for 4 and then go back in and modify it.

Thank you. When was the last time that you booked reservations and then modified? It sounds like the software changed recently that doesn't allow modification for number of guests.

Our last trip was the beginning of September, so I guess the beginning of July was when I booked ADRs and then modified them.

I thought at some point was able modify # of guests on some but not all ADRs? Not sure

The new system is an improvement for us. I like being able to check multiple days in one shot, the up to 2 hours prior cancellation window, and general increase in availability.

The system just let me book a test reservation for 4 on March 19 at 4:05 at Homecomin’ then modify it to 2 for the same time. There were no ADRs for 2 available before 9 pm.
