So earlier today I called and changed my DDP and made one ADR since I was on the phone. The CM that made the reservation for me pretty much laughed when I told her it was just me that was going to be dining. She said "you have no one else to go with you?" and "are you sure your want to do this by yourself?!" I was quite offended. This will be my first solo trip and I am already feeling nervous about it because I will be by myself. And she just totally added to it and pretty much made me feel like I was a crazy person! I am debating reporting this because laughing at a guest is not the thing to do. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

I had something similar happen to me but with a photopass photographer. She was practically interogating me about why I was on my own and didn't I have anyone to be with me. She seemed to be really sorry for me and I found it really embarassing. She made me feel most uncomfortable and I couldn't wait to get away from her. Her photos weren't very good either!
Anyway, don't take any notice of the CM. Most are lovely towards solo travellers and this was most rude to do this. I hope you have a wonderful meal.

I went on a Solo trip in 2006 and found the CMs to be amazing. I took more time talking to them then I would if I was with my family and they were more then willing to talk and share stories about working at WDW. As for the rude CM I wouldn't even pay them any attention. Enjoy your dinners and solo trip...:)

Unfortunately some people just open their mouths and insert their foot. Last fall when I picked up my MNSSHP ticket at my resort. She questioned "only one?" I said "YES, this allows me to enjoy what I want and to do it at my own pace." This gave her something to think about, esp when she realized how she sounded. Don't let that CM ruin your trip or the anticipation for your trip. It shows their own insecurities and they just don't know what they are missing.

That said, I have enjoyed my solo trips. As other posters have said, I also have found the CMs to be very friendly and chatty. I've met some great people and meet up when our trips overlap or just chat with whoever is next to me. Have a fantastic trip!

where's the like button around here??!
I made all my ADRs online last year and made them for just me and loved it!! you will so enjoy having the time to relax and take in all the magic around you dining solo. I had a lot of CMs come up to me and be very chatty with me (bartenders too!) and thought it was very cool that I was dining alone. I have all of them set up for this year as well and I can't wait! the best part is that you get to have whatever cuisine you feel like without having to compromise on anything. take the time to read, catch up on texts, look through the pictures you took earlier, look at the map and see what you want to do next. trust me, you dining solo is a good thing, don't let anyone scare you or take that away from you...

Wow, I'd have been peeved if any CM had made those comments to me. I'd have been asking for the supervisor!

I have never had anyone say anything to me about my solo status when I book any part of my trips.
How very rude!

When you get there have fun with being solo. When asked how many in my party for riding Peter Pan, I said "One childish adult please." and the CM laughed with me and told me where I could look for a hidden Mickey.

I have had fun interactions with CM's and photopass photographers. I pulled out my fan and got this great picture while having fun with the photopass photographer.

Good grief! I'm not one to gripe or report people, but I would have wanted to report that CM (as well as the Photopass one). I just got back from my first solo trip and had a wonderful time, and no smart or "oh, poor thing" remarks from any CMs, everyone was very nice - even when I was a solo adult standing in line for a pic with Handy Manny, or being totally giddy at meeting Phineas and Ferb! (Yes, I'm a Big Kid.) I had lovely meals at Via Napoli, Flying Fish and Les Chefs de France, and the CMs couldn't have been nicer. Go for it and prepare to have fun, and don't let one bad apple get you down.

That is so unfortunate to get that reaction. Quite often I've gotten amazement and envy and "Good for you!" from the CM, but never laughter. That would tick me off too.

Don't let the cast member get you down. I travel solo often, you get to spend time enjoying the things you want to see.

Thanks everyone for the re-assuring comments! I did email a complaint to the company last week. I still have not heard anything from them tho :confused3

I am very very very excited to go on my solo trip! It cannot come soon enough! If WDW contacts me I will let you know what they say! Thanks again for assuring me that a solo trip will be fabulous!!!!!

My trip in 2010 was my first solo one to The World and I had a great time! I didn't ever feel self-conscious. I am leaving again in a month for another solo trip and couldn't be happier. You will have a great time!

Unfortunately on my last solo trip i got this type of attitude from a few CM's. Not all of them but enough to make it annoying. I think it is just more acceptable for some reason for an adult women to be solo at Disney then a solo adult man. Especially for certain rides. A ride like peter pan or snow white i really got comments and looks from not only the CM's but other guests. I have just come to accept that anyplace that kids are around a single guy by himself is looked at as doing something wrong by a lot of people. It doesn't stop me from doing things but it is annoying.

Update: I did get a call this week from the director of guest communications. She apologized for the behavior of the CM and said she would take further action with it. She was very nice and very excited for me to be going on my trip solo. She told me how wonderful the places that I have ADRs are and that I will really enjoy myself! Very nice and awesome that she contacted me!

Thanks! I will definitely keep you updated! My trip is in April and it feels like it is sooooo far away still! I can't imagine having to wait til September!!

You will have a blast. I have gone solo 3 times and loved every one of them. I am now in the process of planning my fourth solo trip in May. A friend may come with me this time, but I secretly hope that she cannot make it. LOL I want to go alone to OKW.:mickeyjum

I went to Disneyland solo for the first time in Feb. I enjoyed it so much I bought an annual pass, have 3 more DL trips planned (1 my parents might come) and a solo trip to WDW.

I can't remember anyone saying anything negative. Maybe I was asked twice when I dined at a resturaunt, but I walked up without a ressie so maybe they were just making sure?

I never felt out of place or looked at weird. Maybe because in DL they are used to singles because so many CA residents have annual passes and come weekly?

I am still going to be fearless when I go to WDW. I know I am going to have a great time and if someone makes a comment, its their narrow minded problem not mine.

I just booked my first solo trip to WDW and this will be my first time going across the country solo. I'm going in September for the NOJ event. I do DLR solo all the time (15 minutes away) and I have a great time.

I have to set a reminder so I can make my ADRS!

I went solo last September and absolutely loved it! I just booked another solo trip for this September/October so I can go to Food & Wine Festival! Everyone was very nice about the fact I was by myself- some people seemed jealous they didn't have the freedom I had.
