I have had a tough time trying to get reservations. Tried to get whatever I could 60+ days out but some I just couldn’t get. One of them is Jungle Navigation Skipper Canteen for lunch for a party of 5. If I search for 4 people there are several openings. Has anyone had any success with a reservation for one less person than what is in your party? Too risky? 3 adults and 2 kids.

I wouldn’t risk it. Have you looked for a table for 6? Disney’s system does not like odd numbers, and there is NO penalty if you book for 6 and show up with only 5. I’ve read of solo diners who have to book a table for 4 because the system says there are no tables for 1, 2, or 3!

I have looked for 6 but nothing came up. Skipper Canteen was a restaurant I never had an issue booking in the past.

This question comes up frequently. Some people say you will have no trouble adding the extra person when you check in. I have personally never tried it. But when I check in for an ADAr on the app, it will sometimes give me the option to add another guest. Note: SOMETIMES. It will often give me a message that I can add “0” extra guests. It seems to be dependent on the restaurant’s capacity when you’re checking in. A popular restaurant at the busiest meal times you would probably not be able to add. An average restaurant at off times, probably very good chance. Not sure what your chances will be.

You can try to make another. ADR at the same time, for 2 people. Then check in at the podium, not the app. Explain you’re together with the other ADR & ask to be seated together or as close as possible. At least that was you could sit 2 & 3 if you have to.

Also, keep checking. As your trip gets closer & especially the day before your ADR. Lots of people cancel ADRs the day before as their plans change. Good luck!

Appreciate your insight.

I would never guarantee this will work. I can only say that we have done this quite a few times at WDW for various reasons and never been denied. Not at Skipper Canteen, but at other park and non-park restaurants. We always ask politely and even apologetically, fwiw.

Yes, we've had success with this. But it's a crap shoot. It depends on the table configurations and so on (whether they can add an extra chair without causing a blockage in an aisle etc.). We've tried this twice and it worked both times. They accommodated us. But it's not guaranteed of course.

We had five in our party and basically got every ADR we were looking for except Space 220 Lounge a couple months ago for our trip last week.
